Kips - It dosnae even cross ma mind, that he played fir Aberdeen. I respect that Aberdeen team fae the early 80's, same as do the Dundee Utd team, fitba wis good back then, plenty competition fir the league.

So in ma opinion, it's got feck all tae dae, wi him kickin our ar$es.

But as this is a question, any answer is welcome, I'd rather people did answer, "aye he wis a wee b@sta@rd it Aberdeen, I've always hated him", if thats the truth.

  1. WGS has won the league 3 times, something other managers didn't achieve and the record books will show that for all time. What it doesn't show is that he has won it at a time when the opposition were shall we say not at their best. His 1st victory was in McLeish's last year when everyone knew he was leaving, why play for a manager who was away at the end of the season, using your comparison would Mourinho have done that, I don't think so.

His next win was the 50 percent (him frenchman) and 50 percent walter with the league won by christmas.

Last year it went to the wire and I honestly believe if Rangers had been knocked out of Europe at say quarter finals they would have won the league, an arguable point but a valid one. Celtic also won 15 games in the last 10 minutes, an indication that they play for 90 minutes plus, yes but also some luck was attached to win so many.

For these 3 wins alone, this should guarantee him his job, however it is not so many months ago and even on this forum that some were calling for his head.

This season, again an arguable point but I believe Rangers will win this year (with the squads as of today) by some margin. I base this on the fact that I believe Walter will have the bigger squad to cope with injuries, suspensions etc. Wgs is unable to change a game tactically because I think he buys players who can do a particular job well but are unable to adapt to anything other than what they are good at. Thirdly I don't think he has enough quality to play at the next level. His away results in the CL are terrible despite some excellent home wins.

Some Celtic fans hate the press for a variety of reasons and no manager should bow down to the press, but in todays media savvy society, Wgs hasn't learned how to conduct himself and so you either love him or hate him doing press conferences and I am referring to his own supporters here. To be a manager of a big club you must have media skills.

As I said earlier on his record he deserves to be in his position, however, because I believe he cannot change a game tactically, his inability to buy players who can do multi jobs, his press skills, I cannot see him lasting if he falls behind his biggest rivals. It will be interesting to see how he conducts himself if he does fall behind Rangers and if I am correct I would doubt if he will see the season out.

  2. DONT KNOW.as you say ,2 last 16,larsson couldny do it,not pretty or entertaining football, sunday was dire , should have changed it earlier, pass the ball to mc geady seems to be the tactics, players get complacement, dont try, its up to strach to motivate  the team and entertain the fans, not happening for me,should be on a high as champions........................

  3. even when i was a kid ,i did not like strachan. so when he become celtic manager it made it easy for me to dislike him even more. probably the hair.

  4. I think you've answered your Q although I have a slightly different opinion.

As far as I'm concerned WGS is one of Celtics Great Managers, i don't like everything he does such as the formations, I did expect him to change things a bit more this season, we'll just have to wait and see! I don't really understand why Bobo and Riordan have been frozen out! Just look at what happened when he was forced to play Bobo for one match, he got man of the match!!! But I've learnt to accept Strachans decisions after his achievements the last few years and have faith that come the end of season we'll be champions once again and we will also have qualified for the Champions League KO stages!

You cant compare Mourinho to WGS, that guy was able to change games because he had the cash to buy every single player he wanted and had players on his bench for every possible scenario when at Chelsea

WGS has about as much skill as a manager as a club like celtic can afford at the moment and he aint doing a bad job! He doesnt have the resourses MON had while at Celtic but he's achieved as much, if not more than MON did but for some reason MON is the big hero but WGS is still being unfairly criticised by certain sections within Scottish Football!

Just wait till this seasons over and we'll see that WGS takes us to 4IAR............Whats the excuses gona  be then, it was only coz it was Walters last season or because everyone knew Murray was getting ready to leave..........Celtic fans just need to get behind their manager and team and other clubs fans.......well who cares what yous think, League Titles and Champions League KO qualification is Celtics main objectives as far as I'm concerned and thats what we've had the last couple of years under WGS

  5. I have a lot of time for WGS..he did the dream of 3IAR and I am actually very surprised he is  still here...I can only hope it is to fight for the 4th

I don't like the way he sticks to certain players...think this was the sad case of why Riordan was never involved.. but whatever he has done it has worked ... didn't he change the formation during the pre-season friendlies though? not that it worked lol..

he said in his conference he has no set way of play.and no idea who he will choose from one game to the next..that for me was a little off the truth to say the least.

can't see him being around for 5IAR however....think one of the EPL teams will come calling

  6. mmmmmmmmmm mince and TATTIES

  7. I have a lot of time for strachan and he should receive the full backing of the hoops fans but i know that will probably never be the case. I particularly like his attitude towards the press as he should never pander to this lot no matter the provocation.

I agree with you regarding the tactics/formation and it is my only gripe. I was really annoyed after the 1-0 home defeat to motherwell last season as firstly I thought the league was over but was more annoyed with his decision not to throw the kitchen sink at motherwell. They were down to 10 men but he still stuck with 442 and even took Skippy off for Samaras. In pre-season he used the 4-2-3-1 formation against porto and feyenoord and it worked well. He has to find the correct balance for his midfield as this is causing the issue. For me it would be brown and robson or hartley but never all 3 of them. Already at this stage of the season, the next 2 games are very important.

  8. He used to play for Aberdeen and he used to kick your A.SS!!!!!!!!! As you say he has delivered more than the mighty M O' N.

Nothing to do with tactics, just admit it, he used to play for Aberdeen and he used to kick your A.SS!!!!!

-Ha ha fair enough! I don't understand the stick he gets although I preferrred M O'N myself. I expect he'll always be unfairly compared to his predecessor.
