Why do we have to learn to type without looking at the key-broad? ?

What is the real reason why students in school have to learn how to type on their key-broad without looking down? I know it takes time and practice to learn, but really, why?

Is it were you can type faster or something?

I would say originally it was so typists could transcribe tapes or written documents into typed documents.  Now of course, it makes it easier when you see your words on the screen to correct them and you can edit as you go.

You will type faster, because you are teaching your body to remember where the keys are.

When you look @ the keyboard, you are literally finding the key with your eyes and then striking the key with your finger. It is going to take longer.

Learning to type the right way may take a little extra time, but it will save you tons of time later.

honestly, i dont know. i think it might be because they think you type faster that way, but i have a better typing speed then my typing teacher and i look at the keyboard lol.

u don't have to learn to type but most likely coz u cant look on the keyboard and the monitor in the same time so it will be better if u type without looking on the monitor

Its because when you get into more advanced classes (like college courses, maybe advanced high school courses) you will need this skill to write papers fast.  Otherwise, you may spend all night writing an essay and still not finish.  While it may not seem worth your while right now, as a college student, trust me when I say it is later on in life when you want to go out and have fun with your friends but you need to finish your paper fast.  Also, this is a good skill to have when you need to copy a written paper to a computer document; the time goes by much faster.

So you can look at the monitor and see if you have made any mistakes or not. If your not looking, how will you know your writing is 100% correct?

because you dont have to look at the keys continueously and then look back up to what you are typing. It makes you a lot faster and personally it is just a better way to type  byah!

I TYPE WITH 2 FINGERS BUT I TYPE FASTER THAN MOST PPL LOL OH YEAH I LOOK AT KB SOMETIMES TOO

You can type three to four times faster, because it becomes muscle memory.  That way you don't have to think about which keys to push.
