  1. I was just thinking the same thing today. I rarely watch T.V. because it is so annoying, and mute the ads if I do watch something. However, my boss has a PVR and wow, is it a good thing. I am going to buy one for my husband for Christmas this year :o)'

Aside from corporate greed, the reason this practice continues is because we, as humans, have a tendency to act a lot like lemmings. If we retaliated instead, and en masse cancelled our cable subscriptions, then things would have to change. Perhaps there would still be advertising but not as much (and not as loud!) Or if we didn't buy products based on the glammed up and often misleading ads, this would speak in dollars to the advertisers.

  2. you don't have to.  Just cancel your service with the cable company.  Put an antennae on the roof or in your attic if it'll help with reception.

  3. i hope you have a PVR included in that monthly price... if you do then just record a program while watching another and FF thru the commercials or use commercial skip! hope that helps!

  4. Because its old technology. I got Dish thinking it was better, but its all commericals too. Costs go up, then the cable company has to higher more ad space. The networks have to cover costs also. I have XM radio and it has commericals now too. Used to not. I called and asked why, they said to cover costs. They were loosing money. Its all about profit.

  5. There is no reason to pay it.  That is why I switched to Satellite TV 4 years ago. Got sick of the cable rates going up.

  6. I agree. Some b******s are getting paid twice. I remember years ago, they actually advertised things you could buy at the grocery store. Now, I'd bet at least 95 percent of the commercials have "800" numbers on the screen. Has anyone ever noticed channels allowing 35 minutes per episode during marathons!! I have. Another thing that burns my *** is the "garbage" on the screen during the program. Over the past 24 months, it's become progressively larger, some of which has sound dubbed in. It is most distracting. If everyone wrote to the FCC to complain, maybe someone would get the message. About 3 years ago, there were some extremely annoying Dell commericals on and someone got them banned. I would like to find out who they contacted. Magazines are just as bad. With all the d**n advertising they sell, magazines and TV should be free. We use the mute button more than the channel changer. Technology goes one way (HD) and progamming goes the other way. Where the h**l are the good shows like AirWolf, MacGyver, Trapper John, Chips, SuperTrain. The new shows absolutely suck. Hollywood is taking the absolute cheapest way out. I just hate shows where they film the whole thing in one room. Talk about low budget. I wish Star Trek would last half as long as 60 minutes has.

  7. greed

  8. hi vipelle, hey we had to pay 48 dollars for satelite tv so we switched to dish only 40 channels but that helps us spend less and save a little as long as it has my sheperds chapel i'm happy
