When i went to an Eu country, on holiday (from Britain) and injured myself, i had to pay for doctor and treatment, even though i had an E111 card. i thought it would be free. When they come here it is free.

  1. If you have an EHIC card, treatment is free or low cost in the EU, we have reciprocal arrangements with other countries. The E111 is redundant - it was replaced by the EHIC card:

  2. I thought it was free with the E111 card - whats the point in having it then - cant you claim it back ???

  3. Rejoice, then, in our NHS.

  4. One of the issues of universal healthcare. My insurance provider covers me when I'm out of the country

  5. It varies from country to country.  With a EHIC (replaces E111) You pay the same as the locals pay.  Most European countries, including the UK, have a State system and a private system.  If you see a private doctor, you have to pay.
