  1. TIPS are "to insure prompt service" and given as a gratuity for services rendered. When I worked as a waiter years ago, we were paid far below minimum wage which was legal. Our real wages were derived from tips. We busted our humps to take care of guests and made efforts to make sure they felt like kings and queens. I gladly tip true professionals. Unfortunately, they seem to be rarer than ever. As a customer, I'll always pay for A+ service! Some folks don't earn their tips very well because they barely perform, doing the absolute minimum. Even these slackers are working for a living. I won't go out if I can't afford to give a gratuity. If you get such bad service that you don't think you should tip, then you should let a manager know so they can fix it for you. If you get good service, reward your server!

  2.     i agree with you.it does not say 10.00 plus tips.like it says plus tax.just another stupid way things are done.and people just accept it.after all its not cool to be logical.has not been for a long time.rather than stand for something.they will fall for anything.

  3. Because this is another example of American greed and stupidity

  4. Because the people working their rear ends off to bring your your food get paid minimum wage and make up the rest of their income from tips.  If your waiter does a good job, tip him or her.  This is especially a good idea if you go to the same restaurant on a regular basis.  I've noticed in the ones I go to that if the waiter remembers you and you give them tips, they go out of their way to give you even better service.  I've also bussed tables and waited on people before and it's really hard work, especially if you do your job right.

  5. u dont have to tip its just nice to give the worker a little extra for their work its your choice if you want to tip but its kind

  6. I never did understand tipping either. We pay enough for the food. It should include the service. the business should give them an increase in wage and eliminate tipping. But for now I do tip. If I get great service. If they're rude or don't bother to fill drinks. I don't see a reason to bother.

  7. because waitress pay sucks! i should kno, i make 2.50 an hour plus tips (lol)

...anyway you dont hav to its kind of like showing the waitor/waitress kindness-you enjoyed the food and the service (we fill your drinks, bring out your food, clean your dishes, give you menus, talk-pretty much give in to your needs to make you want to come back with more buisness and for the great food- OF COURSE)

    ***that's my opinion, anyway*****

  8. ooh just say whatever on them if they look at you weird for not tipping. it`s your choice bro.

but it`s all for kindness and such

  9. that  why ,There  is  no  TIP in  Japan..Japan  rocks!!!

  10. Not only is it out of courtesy to the waitress or waiter who just served you, but they get paid almost literally nothing. Like $3 and hour, its' crazy; so they really rely on your tip and if you don't do so I suggest you start.

On the other hand, if they give you really bad service, are rude, etc, you should not tip them because they do not deserve it nor do they deserve their job.

  11. ANSWER

Because restaraunt industry is run by scumbags who don't want to pay their employees. They are all related and give you some c**p sob story about how they started with "nothing", and you should be glad they let you wash their dishes. They don't mention the $20K each of their 900 family members put up for them to start "from nothing".

Tipping is just a way to make sure the worker gets paid, cuz the bosses aint doin it.

It should be outlawed, this underpaying of waitresses.

  12. It is an odd custom I agree, but the idea of "tipping" is that you are paying the server for their service. Servers at restaurants only get paid a few dollars an hour. The price of your meal pays for the food and its preparation. The bringing it to your table part apparently is a separate operation that patrons are supposed to pay for.

The funny look you get from the server you didn't tip might be because they spent the time making sure you got what you wanted or needed and got nothing for it.

  13. ...because you need to pay for the service. YOU ARE NOT PAYING FOR THE SERVICE WHEN YOU PAY THE BILL. Servers and bartenders only get paid like $2.00 an hour. They work for tips. I understand that you paid for the meal, but you also need to pay the people who serve you your meal, refill your drink, and clean up after you when you go out to eat because the owner is not. If they did, your meal would be much more expensive because the owner would have to pay a MUCH HIGHER salary to many employees. It is done this way so that the servers will work hard to earn a good tip. If they all got paid the same, your service wouldn't be as good and that would be bad for business. Not to mention...bad for you, the customer, for obvious reasons.

Servers have to pay taxes on tips too. In many restaurants management will tell the servers what percentage of their sales they must claim (as a minimum) to the IRS. If people don't tip, not only are they making significantly below minimum wage, they are also paying taxes on money they didn't receive. Where are you from? I know it doesn't work the same way in all countries, but in America patrons are expected to tip AT LEAST 15 percent. I only tip 15 percent if the service is really bad. 20 percent is standard (and easy...just divide the total by 5 to figure out how much to leave).
