Question:

Why do we insist on electing perfect, plastic people to run our country?

First off, I was leaning towards Bob Barr, because I have a natural distrust for career politicians. Then McCain picked Palin as his running mate. This lady if from a middle class family, and as the left wing bloggers are pointing out, her family has middle class problems. My point is, no one is perfect. How many high profile political types do you think drug their daughters kicking and screaming to the abortion clinic in middle of the night to avoid this type of publicity? I'm willing to bet it's happened too many times to count.

I don't know about you, but I want to be represented by people who are like me, can relate to me and my problems. I don't want an atmosphere of phoniness surrounding my leaders and representatives.

For the last two days I have seen one barrage of attacks against this 17 year old kid after another, Even Obama has come out and said it has to stop. But yet it continues. Why? Is winning so important that we have to abandon our sense of fairness and decency? Why can't we stick to the issues facing this country?

I for one, at first glance, like The Palins. They appear to be regular working class folks. These are the type of people we NEED in politics, on BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE. People who want to serve, instead of the power hungry millionaires hungry for the power the office brings them.

I'm sorry, but the more that comes out about the daughter, the closer I am to voting for McCain. It only galvanizes the point that their family is like mine, because my wife and I had to deal with these same issues. Who's with me?

  1. Personally I am not at all interested in Palin's daughter.  I am amazed though that Palin was chosen to run for the backup of a presidential candidate.  She has asked what a VP does.  She has a degree in Journalism, was a beauty contest winner, was the mayor of a small town in Alaska, then governor for a couple of years.

Actually in the last two elections a man was chosen who people said they would like to have a beer with.  Now he is the most unpopular president the history of our country.  In spite of Bush's folksy demeanor, his family was actually oil rich.  McCain is a millionaire and believes that millionaires belong to the middle class.  Barack Obama is from an actual middle class family, not millionaires.  McCain has already described in his memoirs why he wants to be president.  He doesn't want to serve, he said himself his reason for running is ambition.

"I didn't decide to run for president to start a national crusade for the political reforms I believed in or to run a campaign as if it were some grand act of patriotism. In truth, I wanted to be president because it had become my ambition to be president. . . . In truth, I'd had the ambition for a long time."

So he didn't want the most powerful position in the country and perhaps the world for what great and good things he could do, but he just wanted to be president.  What a low ambition.

  2. I hear you.  We were going to hold our noses and vote for McCain before he announced his VP choice as Palin.  We liked her the more we read about her to begin with, but she seems like she comes from "real people" with real problems and we can relate.  Nothing has come out about her that makes her seems like a bad person, so far.  Everything I've heard, my family had to deal with, too.

  3. You shouldn't be so logical, you know you will be attacked by the Liberals and demo's

  4. I agree with the sentiment but disagree. I think Palin's views like many others are the problem. They don't jive with the reality we are living in. Education is a key component. Kids are going to make mistakes and make their own decisions. We can't be on them 24/7 nor should we. But we can educate them so they can at least make an informed decision. It comes down to reducing the likelihood that a bad decision with serious consequences is made such as contracting an STD. STDs are on the rise since Bush's abstinence only policy.

There is no way that I will vote for McCain/Palin. I disagree with them on the issues. I'm middle class but I'm a realist. I am a liberal democrat. I believe in American values and want to see them live. I know that it takes hard work, discipline, and commitment. It's not easy but then nothing good is.

edit: I want smart and intelligent people in charge that care about this country. I want people better than me in charge that have a conscience and a commitment to American ideals.

  5. I insist on a leader with good judgment. McCain did not show that when he chose this woman, put her and her family on the National stage, and then acted surprised when the media found out she had "Warts". Its a little disingenuous to claim that she was properly vetted.

  6. Do you really think average Joes can handle worldwide problems? It takes a micromanager to run a country. Plastic people are just that.  Sarah should be home, not in D.C. or even Anchorage.
