Why do we need God to explain the universe?

What reason do we have to say god made the universe. Evolution, the big bang, and physics provide all we need to explain the universe. What makes god necessary?

  1. Look up the "singularity". Its a point where all our math and physics break down...(in laymans terms, its a divide by zero, in the Big Bang Case)...i think thats where god is needed.

Haha, and our understanding of the universe is infintesimally small...we have alot to learn...our physics can hardly explain life on THIS planet xD let alone the universe

  2. We can't yet answer how everything came about. Time + Matter + Chance = Universe. Where did the matter come from.

  3. We don't.  What we do need is hope, unfortunately, a lot of people don't realize hope exists outside of believing in gods..

  4. Weak minded sheep need a crutch.

  5. "For every complex question there is an answer that is simple, clear, and wrong."

"To surrender to ignorance and call it God has always been premature, and it remains premature today." -- Isaac Asimov

  6. Even if we do not have answers for something, that does not imply a deity did it. That would be a form of the fallacy "argument from incredulity".

There is nothing a deity is necessary to explain.

  7. I'm glad you asked that question... I have always been raised as a Christian, and I have taken those beliefs with me into my adult life.  Unlike most Christians I don't go about trying to change people's beliefs.  I have been curious about why others think and believe the way they do.  I just recently started dating a guy who is atheist.  We agreed to have intelligent discussions in regards to what we believe, but to never push off what we believe on one another, nor to try and change each others minds.  He introduced me to the big bang theory, and all the scientific explanations behind how and why this universe was created.  It trumps me in knowing that there is a strongly supported explanation behind how this universe was created, and knowing that this earth was not created by God in 6 days and 6 nights, really makes me think about what else in the bible that I have been following my whole life isn't true.  I will admit that there is no intelligent explanation why I believe in the Christian teachings, it's simply blind faith.  I think some people feel a lack of love and insecurity in their life, so therefore they turn to their religion, and "leave it to the Lord." I hate it when Christians say, Let go and let God.  I have a choice to make, and my beliefs are being challenged by something that makes perfect sense, and that is hard for me.  Most people who lean towards atheism would probably deem me as unintelligent, but you at least have to give me credit for opening up my mind.  For me it is such a huge risk denying my beliefs.  Why not just play it safe, and continue to follow my religion, and when I die and my religion is false, then I don't loose out, and I lived my life as a good person.

I told my boyfriend, that we believe through Christ you can have eternal life.  His response to it was, if that's the case... why aren't you living to die? Why don't we just speed up the process of dying, if in the end we have this wonderful eternal life in heaven, and that is actually a good question.

Just know that people have had things driven in their heads, and the idea of turning their back on it, and possibly going to h**l is a very scary thing, even if everything you say makes total sense.

Maybe the bible was a book written by man, to give people a tool to live a good and moralistic life. Maybe the story of evolution and the big bang theory is true, but that doesn't necessarily deny the existence of God.  Maybe God was the one who created that spark, and which in return caused the big bang theory. IDK, I'm really confused with all of this.

  8. I have found no answer that could explain life and the universe without the existence of God.  xox

  9. Im not making an opinion on whether he exists or not, because thats not my job. But, think of it this way. Since the beginning of time, people have beleived that there was an almighty force, known as GOD, who looks over people. To be honest, the world is a very dark and lonely place, and using GOD to have someone to talk to when things get hard is very valuable. People need GOD to explain the universe because science is still overuled by faith, and its been like that for a very long time. That goes for every other question you have. Faith is just too strong :).

  10. He's the creator. Ask for forgiveness from God you can't doubt that. And read Genesis in the Bible. God created us and evolution was made up by man.

  11. Evidently, we cannot all agree on this.

No one person can prove anything. All they can do is make theories. It may be the same in faith. But, I'd sooner trust in a faceless God, than in 6 billion lying faces.

  12. Celest - "All the matter appearing out of no where, that seems logical to you?"

...haha, but believing in a magical being does?  I am sure as time goes on we will prove where that sht came from, either way, not knowing where it came from doesn't make me have a need to create some magical being to make myself feel better.  I am fine with not knowing the answers to everything, but my common sense would not allow me to create this "god" in my mind and have him run my life.

  13. SCIENCE    can't  give  us  all  the  answers. This  is  understood  in  the  fact  that  at  the  point  of  singularity   the  laws  of  physics  didn't  exist. Therefore   science  has  no  other  way  to  measure  by.This   then  is  the  place  to  seek  GOD  and  answers   from  his  workings.SCIENTISTS   can't  answer  the  question  as  to  where  did  the  difference  between  the  past  and  the  future  come  from.   THANK  YOU  D'S

  14. As theories, the big bang and evolution have severe flaws.  The big bang doesn't describe what the universe was like a minute before the big bang, and what precipitated the big bang.  Evolution seems to require much more time than the age of the Earth in order for complex organisms to evolve.  It is more reasonable to believe that life was planted on this planet, and that requires technically advanced intelligent life.

  15. Because he is not necessary

some just seem to not be able to comprehend it

  16. Insecurity and fear make God necessary.  Some people just need to be led.  These are also the same people who either can't, won't, or just flat-out refuse to think for themselves.

If you want a real "miracle",  consider the fact that mankind has survived for thousands of years in a universe ruled by random chance, not by some benevolent sky magician.

  17. All the matter in existence just appearing out of nothing?  That seems logical to you?

  18. We don't need to have a made up belief that God created all that we see. My belief is based on much more than that. You also should not put so much credence in a theory that has virtually no evidence. I suggest you do some research before you make such bold statements claiming that we have all the answers we need. If that was the case then why are millions of dollars still pouring into this research? You will not find one scientist who makes any kind of statement of fact about origins. They at least know better. You can believe these men's theories that are based on their worldview if you want but you should be aware that your beliefs are no more valid than someone who believes in God. You seem to forget that the evidence of origins is the same for both worldviews. It's the interpretation of that evidence that is not agreed upon.

  19. Modern Quantum physics says that Intelligence force outside of this universe actually manifests and sustains the physical universe. Only consciousness exists

  20. When man did not have sufficient knowledge or means to obtain it, a god or gods was a somewhat reasonable answer, however, now it is not needed or indicated.

  21. Where is the proof physics is right?  Go away.

  22. We no longer do.

At one point in time we did, before we understood how it all worked.

Some still choose to pretend evolutionary science and the science of the universe are insufficient (or even wrong) ... I suppose these people still need god(s) for other reasons.

Just because we do not have all of the answers, doesn't mean we have to go making them up.

  23. Where is the proof physics is right?

You're using a tool which relies on the veracity of quite a good deal of relativistic and quantum physics/chemistry at this very moment in time.

    *cough* computer *cough*

  24. 1. We don't.

    2. Absolutely nothing.

    Any other questions?

For those about to thumbs down this answer, have you considered that everything that has occurred in nature for at least as long as recorded human history has been driven by purely natural processes? Why would this ever need to be different?

  25. You don't need him to explain , it's called faith.

  26. Not only is a gawd unnecessary, the Universe is more POORLY explained by means of a supernatural entity who stands outside of all the laws of the Universe.

Consider the silly claim that everything "must" have been created by someONE. Yet, gawd doesn't need to have been created, they say. Why not ? No actual reason, just a Special Pleading Fallacy.

Well, if the rules of the theists don't need to apply to their fictional sky pixie, then why do they need to apply to anyTHING in the Universe at all ?

They demand that science be held to their rules, but that their deity NOT be held to those rules. Thats... hypocritical of them.

  27. those things might explain the how...but not the why...if you are really an inquisitive person...all questions should be examined...not just the ones you want...

  28. You left out one rather important word in your 2nd sentence,"theory", The big band is very much an unproven theory. Evolution is also described as a theory with a number of important missing links which renders the theory incomplete. The "God created heaven and earth" doctrine is as good a theory as any, so way not keep your options open?

  29. People did 4000 years ago.  Then we researched it a bit more and figured out natural means.  Some people have decided to ignore this evidence and keep their delusions.

"Where's the proof physics is right?"

...it's a bit early, but I think we can safely give this one a 'Fundie Statement of the Month' award.

  30. some people just can't face reality so they make up explanations that make life easier to bear.

  31. I don't get it either.

I explain the truth about life in my profile, what more do people need?
