  1. its because they have a heavy impact on the economy, with tourist trips from different countries.  They make this country a fair whack of money.  which seems to be wasted by the government on some rubbish scheme at avoiding proper funding of the nhs system

  2. so you would really like ALL of the power to be with Gordon Brown - do you not think England is screwed enough?

  3. It's just a part of culture and tradition. In my view, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unless the presence of royalty begins to cause trouble, there's no point in changing the way things are. And given how involved the crown is in constitution and legal process, it would cause far more trouble to remove them.

  4. Another pointed anti Royalty question. Would you rather have George Dubya as head of state or Mugabe neither of whom can string two words together.

  5. Why would we need a "President"? Another overpaid lying politician with a political agenda?  I wouldn't fancy living under the Dictatorial rule of "El Presidente Blair" although I'm sure he'd love the title.  And the wage packet.

The Queen is our figurehead.  She is not political.  She was born to do her job - to serve her country.   She will do it until she dies.  How many of you will work for that long?  And she makes a better job of it than the lying politicians will ever do because they are only in it for themselves and have no loyalty to this country.

    God Save the Queen!

If you want a "President", hop off to America and live under Bush's thumb.

  6. Any alternative in England is frightening.

A queen is certainly better that a power crazy, corrupt and self seeking president!

  7. Although the Queen does not have absolute power, however, she does hold some power in Parliament. According to convention, the Queen's powers are exercised upon the advice of her prime minister. She does however possess certain reserve powers which she may exercise at her own discretion.

In the UK, the Queen (or King, when there is a male monarch) has numerous theoretical personal prerogatives. In practice, however, with the exception of the appointment of a prime minister, which is done with every prime minister, there are few circumstances in modern British government where these could be justifiably exercised; they have rarely been exercised in the last century. These powers could be exercised in an emergency such as a constitutional crisis. The monarch's personal prerogatives are:

    - The refusal to dissolve Parliament when requested by the Prime Minister.

    - To appoint a Prime Minister of her own choosing.

    - The dismissal of a Prime Minister and his Government on the Monarch's own authority.

    - The refusal of the Royal Assent.

    - The refusal of the "Queen's Consent," where direct monarchical assent is required for a bill affecting, directly or by implication, the prerogative, hereditary revenues—including ultimus haeres, treasure trove, and bona vacantia—or the personal property or interests of the Crown to be heard in Parliament.

  8. she has power, she could clean up this mess if she wanted, but shes to busy spending our money!

  9. Praise Science that there are more and more Republicans in the UK.  Its a d**n good point you have made there squire.  She is just a feeble excuse for a human being who chews up our hard earned tax money

  10. We are the United KINGdom....ergo> we have a monarch. She is a figurehead and represents us as a nation. Our history dictates what we are. What are the alternatives, a temporary president voted in, probably by a minority of the populace therefore representing that minority and a particular political agenda? We have enough problems at the moment without having to add to them with more internal bickering don't you think?

  11. We don't need a queen, how can we be a democracy with an unelected head of state!

  12. u need a queen for aesthetics. and also when people dont use nice and tough words she come in handy, cooing ANNUS HORRIBILIS.

  13. Although i don't agree with her or want a unelected had of sate, as i feel that money she gets from the government could go to the NHS (saving lives or curing Cancer)

However I do respect that she is a very big part of our society and culture.

As for the 'no power' part, she does actually have a lot of 'power'. She opens and closes Parliament, she decides who becomes the next priminister, she signs of the new laws and she's head of the armed forces.

  14. UK is a constitutionarl monarchy, thus the Queen [with little real power] is head of state.  The real power in UK is in the hands of our elected representatives [Members of Parliament] in the House of Commons, the highest court in the land.

We could get rid of the monarchy and replace it with a republic, such as the one in France or the USA.  We would still have a head of state, but instead it would be someone rather like Geo Bush who bosses everyone around.

Here in UK the Queen never boses anyone nor does she express any political opinion ever on any subject or issue.

    God Save the Queen.

  15. to keep the king happy.

  16. I think you are fortunate to have her.To say she has no power is not being honest. She has power.Your country has an amazing history.I could not possibly get into all of it without ending up with an essay. I know you may not care what someone from another country thinks, but I would hate to see an end to it.

  17. who tolled you SO,

she has power, believe it or not.

just have a look at Lebanon in the news

  18. simple answer is we dont...they are totally surplus to requirements

  19. Post ww2 American paranoia, thought they conquer the world and abjured monarchy of UK. One example the Abdication of the Duke of Windsor 1936, I wonder why the English was really convince and believed on it even on its unconstitutional act. Unfortunately this American royal sibling of ww2 was so irresponssible to maintain standard genocide,to justify all those irresponsible acts, they had pass bills on united nation of banning anyone to commit genocide. But this doesnt put jurisdiction in the jury when it comes to royal property claim. They are in crazy imagination of what was abode of hades now, left out and in danger to royal errossion loosing all their ww2 sacrifices on guns victory. I find it crazy drafting all the magna carta since Aquitine, engineered at their despossal of no primogeniture to attest none other than a president atleast His mother was once a kelly on her mother's middle name. What a royalty of bygones hades of deaths. What a sayonarra...

In truth, UK doesnt need a queen of no power, actually it was an excuse to an illigal US conspiracies to Abjured what was once an absolute rule, to their insecurities of Over powering American WW2 "victory" in quote...

Anyway the English were obidient citizens to shady american rule of allege puppetry. Or just not being aware about it. I am not against US, cause lots of my relatives choose a private life in US most of them married white commoners actually 90 percent of my family. What I cannot understand, why the english people are so underdog to americans when it come to behavioral assertions.

And english are so "emmotional" and often times commit blunder. And so illogical and Martyr....well my father was an english and also my foster father and my mother...I'm German...to excused!!

  20. Executing the power on and behalf of the citadel of power of royalty.

Preserving the Royal nature and glam our.

Old is Royal and Gold .Keep the tradition please.

  21. How does she not have any power??  She certainly does.

  22. She brings in thousands of tourists each year.

Plus, we need someones face on the £1 coin.

    Apart from that.............

  23. I'm English, under 35 and support the monarchy, not because of the personalities involved, but because it’s a crucial part of Britain’s one thousand year history of being an independent nation.

Besides, I don't want a boring suited president to be my head of state. I want a ‘Head of State’ that makes a statement as to my country’s history, and gives it the grander and dignity that it is due, and of course the public recognition abroad.

    God save the Queen.

  24. Billions of pounds from tourism is good enough reason for me although there are others

  25. Good question, where is she still there? GEt her out of the palace and to work.

  26. Would you prefer a political system more similar to the USA?  Not sure I would.

  27. We need a face for our postage stamps, don't we?

  28. The Queen has no power?! I suggest you read up a bit- she passes or nullifies every law that comes through Parliament!

  29. White supremacy makes people feel good.

  30. It's really very simple. The Queen is the head of the Armed Services, the Law, and (in England) the Church, as well as (nominally) the Government, and for as long as she is, no one else can be. This brings stability, continuity, and (thank heavens) wisdom, to institutions not renowned for such qualities in the past.

It is the best protection the ordinary citizen has against victimisation, dictatorship, or coups d'etat, and long may it continue.
