  1. Peoples cultures are built on myths ~ Some dating back many, many thousands of years...How can you disprove/prove something that may have happened many, many thousands of years ago....& which a culture has been built around.

Why would you even want to destroy peoples cultures?

You'd be taking away their past, their cultural identity.

Having the ability to learn about these different cultures, is very interesting for a lot of people.

  2. It's there to give people like you something to talk about.

  3. I miss my myth, and my miss mythes me.

  4. You can, but your active or passive quest to prove or disprove such things will yield results that apply in your own context.

  5. It's just like what makes philosophy so interesting- there's no way to prove or disprove it. What do we define as 'real'? People believe in religion, but what scientific proof have we been given to religions?

Why can you determine it's fake? It's an interesting discussion that can go on and on for eternity until solid proof has been found to validate or discredit it. So until that day comes, people find refuge in things that are more interesting and intriguingng than what we have now, because it's the fascination of the unknown that's so mesmerizing. Even if it's scientifically impossible, it's still fun to explore and stuff. Right? That's what I think anyways. :)

And, maybe you'd be interested in the show Mythbusters! Hehee... ^^

  6. I have found that in all legend and myth there is a little that may be factual, but always the tale gives hope in the face of despairity and gloom. Some myths are necessary to complete a cycle and reason for the drudgery of common life.

If you have a small child that wants to be read to sleep, what will you do, grab the evening paper or a dictionary?

  7. A world that is completely explained and predictable would be dull and feel empty.

People like mystery and surprises.. Sometimes it's just to kill the boredom,, other times it's a hope that there is something better out there then mere humanity.

People cling to those sorts of things, so disproving them is very difficult.

  8. Well maybe because some of these myth are over several hundred of thousands of years old.... And the can no longer be proven either way............................

  9. for as long as there has been speech there has been stories. Some were to entertain but over time they have become a legend. As for fair tails, they were created so that people can come to terms with some great tragedy. Look at "ring around the rosie" that was created so that the people of the times could better cope with the great pandemic influenza.
