Why do we need to segregrate waste into biodegradable and non biodegradable?

So that biodebradable can be used as manure for the soil's nutrients. Whereas non-biodegradable can't be converted for Nature's needs. It has to be recycled.

"Imagine if they are not separated, I have seen this in front of my eyes. Polythene bag and domestic waste together in a dustbin, and a cow was eating it, along with the plastics!!"
