Question:

Why do we need to support Georgia?

Why is our government taking sides from the Georgia-Russia conflict, instead of remaining neutral? Aren't we going to start another Cold War by aiding Goergia, and angering Russia?

What's your opinion about this? Thanks.

  1. We are their allies. They are a part of NATO. It is our job.

  2. TO SHOW THAT WE ARE THE DOMINANT NATION AND NO LOSER BETTER MESS WITH US

TO SHOW WE CAN DO ANY **** WE WANT!

  3. Remember when we gave Hitler whatever he wanted because we thought he would just shut up and go away, the whole appeasement thing, ummmm yeah

  4. Because we told them we would.

  5. They are applicants for NATO membership. They offer strategic access to the Black sea and as a NATO member would be a key refueling station for NATO planes on Middle East missions. Additionally they are a true democracy in a region where that is scarce.

  6. "We should support the right of all countries to be sovereign."

    George Bush, Jr.

  7. Georgia has a pro-west government since it broke away from the USSR and we engineerred the "pink revolution" (or whatever color it was), and I think we should support them philosophically, and perhaps provide humanitarian assisance if requested.  But any other support, especially militarily, is absolutely WRONG.

I think it's like a person stuck in quicksand poking a hornet's nest with a short stick. Eventually the hornets will get angry and attack, and the person will be in even more trouble.

When the USSR was breaking apart and financially broke, instead of befriending them and finding common ground, we started stepping on their toes like a bully. Now that Russia is rich with oil and gas money, and nationalism is running at a fever pitch, we continue to poke at them, and stick our fingers in their eyes. OUR actions are causing the situation to deteriorate, and BushCo has no clue what to do, except to continue to be bullies.

Why would Condi rush to Poland to sign an agreement we know Russia doesn't like just as the crisis hit the news? Because BushCo doesn't know any better. Forget the fact that a missile shield in Poland would be completely ineffective in protecting the American homeland; just the fact that we're doing it right next door to the hornet's nest shows a complete lack of foresight, good judgment and common sense in our foreign policy.

Georgia invaded South Ossetia, which was Russian-leaning, and Russia responded.  That conflict in no way affects the US.  Our inserting ourselves into that conflict only proves 2 things: First, that Bush is an idiot, and second, that as long as a country is "west-leaning", they can get away with murder and we'll support them.

And Mud: Georgia is NOT a member of NATO.  We have absolutely NO responsibility to them!
