  1. To help you make the kind of money you should be making and keep the company from treating you unfairly. I have worked on both sides, union and non-union, and there is a big difference. I am not saying all unions are great, but they are a necessary evil in some places. What strikes me funny about the non-union people is that all the people running the area around them are union. This includes City, County, and State employees and even the school teachers. All the ones that are complained about....for making too much money.

  2. Unions are an outdated concept. At one time they were a necessary evil. They were founded to keep employees safe and to keep them from being taken advantage of. Today, however, we have federal and state laws in place. Today unions are used as a legal shakedown of employees in the form of union dues. Despite all the strikes we have seen in the recent past, Unions are very powerful and no longer have the employee's best interest at heart.

  3. We don't. Unions are all about greed. There is no such thing as corporate greed. If someone owns a company, then they have the right to determine pay scales and benefits packages. A business is in business to do one thing,.......MAKE MONEY!!! It is not up to the business owner or corporation to "share" its earnings with its employees. If you want to make more money, start a business, or change careers. Business owners know what level of skill is needed to perform the tasks related to the business and will hire workers for a wage consistent with the skills neccessary for that position. If a very skilled worker is needed, that position will pay more and require more training of the person performing that task. Unions want people doing petty little tasks to be paid as much as skilled workers. They think that if a company is making a lot of money it should pay the employees more. You need to remember one thing, the person who started the business is the one who risked his money to start the business, he is the one who had the vision, the guts, and the knowledge to make it work. His intention was not to make his future employees rich, his intention was to start a business and make money for himself.

  4. We don't.

  5. without them, employers take advantage of workers

  6. Management controls the hiring and firing of workers, if an individual tries to negotiate their own salary and benefits package, and management decides it's unreasonable, they can fire the worker. If all the workers in the company negotiate collectively, management can't afford to fire everyone and remain in business, so they negotiate.

    It's called Solidarity.

  7. In what?
