Why do we not see old Tibetan Monks. ?

  1. During the Cultural Revolution, many Tibetan monks were forced to leave the monasteries, much like monks were throughout China. Many were forced to marry, or be imprisoned or killed. Consequently, most of the monks who would be old now, were removed from the monastic environment in their youth. Some escaped to India and Nepal, and there are a few left in Tibet, but there are many more young monks because they took vows long after the terrible troubles of the Cultural Revolution.


  2. There are BOLD Tibetan monks.  There are OLD Tibetan monks.  But there are no OLD BOLD Tibetan monks.

  3. probably because once monks reach a certain age, they devote their entire lives to learning about buddha and how to reach nirvana (freedom from the cycle of birth and rebirth), so they probably dont have much time to wander around the streets in their orange robes like the young ones.

    and the dalai lama is an internationally recognised buddhist preacher so we see alot of him.
