  1. they aren't called hurricanes in the atlantic, they're called typhoons

  2. typhoons

  3. Well there are typhoons in the pacific, but mostly if your talking about the "West Coast" side of the US then there are a lot of earthquakes, more then you hear about hurricanes/tropical storms, or known as TYPHOONS over there. Reason being is the land mass is totally different seeing that its very hilly and rocky, aka California and Nevada etc. The weather over there is totally different from ours as in Cali they have 2 different weathers in one, up north is snow and middle/down south is hot.  Also the main reason is that there water is fairly warmer then our water/oceans. Over here in the east coast, the Atlantic has cold waters near the Canada/Maine border line, coming all the way down the middle of the east coast, and then you start getting warm water, especially in Florida and the Gulf. These waters mix with eachother and sometimes form air masses and when the hot air reaches to the cold air it creates a lot of pressure causing hurricanes/tropical storms, the longer and further the mix with eachother, the more gathering and bigger the hurricane will be.

  4. The northern hemisphere has hurricanes - we hear about them because we live in the north - the southern hemisphere has typhoons - you would hear about them if you lived there.  Both typhoons and hurricanes are tropical storms of great magnitude.

  5. There are hurricanes in the Pacific (that's right hurricanes, not typhoons), they are called hurricanes before they pass the international date line, which runs through the Pacific.  Occasionally hurricanes from the Atlantic will cross Central America and reorganize in the Pacific with a different name.  Pacific hurricanes usually dissipate without ever hitting land, or hit Mexico.  Occasionally they will cross the dateline and become typhoons monitored by another meteorological group in Asia under a different name, but until they cross the dateline they are indeed, hurricanes.

  6. There are occasional storms in the pacific, but they normally impact Mexico. I believe Tijuana is actually being affected by a tropical storm right now.

  7. When there actually is one on the Pacific, believe me you'll hear about it.

  8. They do exist but are called Typhoons in The Pacific, Hurricanes are in The Atlantic.

To complicate things even further they're called Cyclones in The Indian Ocean.

  9. IN THE PACIFIC THEYRE CALLED TYPHOONS.
