  1. So people like Obama will have a job.

  2. . . . .render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's. . . . .

government provides roads, transportation, mints money, income for disabled and elderly, schools, universities, cops, and rules for orderly society

  3. There has to be some means to pay for expenses of providing services to our country. For example, we all benefit from roads and infrastructure, defense, medical research, foreign relations, congress and so on. I guess you're serious about the question or you wouldn't have asked, but even if we stopped all government expenditures today, we would have to pay taxes for about 4 years to pay off the cumulative debt. Who would seriously want to eliminate government completly and revert to a lawless society without any organization or leadership?

  4. In order to keep this country running.

  5. TO fund the schools, you and your children attend, to pay for police to protect you, to pay firemen to save your life, to build the a decent living standard for you and your community...

The list goes on, they're not all perfect though, many a very flawed.
