To Celia H.: The reason that we sent soldiers to Afghanistan and Iraq is because Afghanistan and Iraq had been used as training bases for the hijackers who flew hijacked planes into the World Trade Center.

This was an act of war against the United Staes of America. It was entorely proper for the United States to remove the ability of Afghanistan and Iraq to serve as training bases for Muslim Terrorists.

To:o41655: We do not need to become engaged in a ground war with Russia or use nuclear weapons.

The best response is to place Surface to Air missile systems in Countries such as Georgia that are capable of shooting down Russian bombers.

The Georgians can handle those. All we have to do is provide the military equipment.

We recently signed an agreement woth Poland to provide them with an antimissile defense system.

We can provide Georgia, and the next targets of Putin, the Ukraine and Poland with Surface to Air missiles to shoot down Russian aircraft.

  1. At present, the US has no plausible justification for intervening.

  2. For the same reason that you permit the corrupt criminal GW Muff to send US soldiers to die in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Governments treat the people with total contempt, and only the people can change that.

  3. What. Afraid he'll catch up to G. W. Bush?

  4. How about letting someone else handle this? We are still at war in Iraq.

  5. I dunno.  Pres. Bush is in China, so is Putin, Congress is on vacation. Obama scurried off to Hawaii--surprise!.

Take a look at this; pretty strange stuff:

  6.   Damned if we do and damned if we don't, Bush gets criticized for being a warmonger one second and weak for not doing enough, the only ties we have are economic ones, since it's all about the money/energy supplies/pipelines anyways. Pution has ben killing off his critics and even had the audacity to use polonium 210 in the UK, but no one wants to face up to facts he's trying to earn his place in Russian history up there with Ivan and Stalin. Our democratic leadership is in hiding, at first Obama rightly called it an "invasion", then he backed down, there went any hopes I had that he could be a good President, because Putin would end up runningthe world and Obama would be going around shaking hands and making weasely statements teh next four years. Basically, lack of guts. Why do we allow them to threaten to nuke Poland, without making it clear they would pay.

  7. Here's some facts:

"Putin criticized the United States for airlifting Georgian troops back home from Iraq on Sunday at Georgia's request. "It's a pity that some of our partners instead of helping are in fact trying to get in the way," Putin said at a Cabinet meeting. "I mean among other things the United States airlifting Georgia's military contingent from Iraq effectively into the conflict zone."

Putin's comments reflected Russia's growing irritation with Western condemnation. "The scale of their cynicism causes surprise," Putin said. "It's the ability to cast white as black and black as white which is surprising, the ability to cast the aggressor as the victim and blame the victims for the consequences."

    ___

Don't get crazy in over-reaction, do you want more aggression from Outside? -- remember the Georgians started the violence, and the Russians are reacting, too much in reaction is debatable, but this was started by the Georgian forces... and that's wrong in the 1st place.  And no matter what we/you call Putin.. the USA would react the same way.. what level is "too much" of a reaction? for Russia? or the USA?

    WHO is "permitting" anything?

  8. Because the Bush Administration is incompetent.

Russia is attempting to recreate the old Soviet Union.

Russia wants Georgia as a subservient colony.

Russia has been carpet bombing Georgia and targeting civilians.

Russia has already killed thousands of Georgian civilians to terrorize them into giving into Russia.

Russia is engaging in a genocidal war of aggression in Georgia to kill all of the Georgian civilians who are oppsed to Russia.

The individual behind this is Putin, the former President of Russia and an old KGB thug.

Russia has a vicous history of killing civilians who oppose the dictatorship of Russia.

Stalin a former Distator of Russia murdered over 13 million Ukrainian civilians when they opposed him.

That is more than twice the number of Jewish people who wer killed by Adolf Hitler during world war II.

Putin is a student of Stalin and thinks that the way that you deal with people who disgree with you is to kill them.

  9. Didnt Georgia attack the people of South Ossetia, Also both sides are claiming that the other is targeting civilian but in that part of the world its likely that both are attacking civilians.

  10. How many countries should we invade and send troops into?

  11. Assuming by "we" you mean the United States...I do not understand why you use the word "permit" as if the United States had the power to stop it?   What method would you have the USA use and why do you think it would be effective? How quickly could it be implemented?  How long before results?  Do you suggest the USA get into a land war with Russia?  Or use nuclear weapons, the same type of weapons that the Russians also have?

And what do you think the rest of the world, particularly Europe and the Middle East, would do if the USA and Russia turned their homes into the battlefield?
