Why do we pick leaves off bushes?

Thats really weird because when i walk pass a bush i have to pick a leaf off. I really don't know why though. I just suppose it's cause it's there :)

haha i only read a few of the answers for this question and i think i am one of the only people that understood the meaning of your question was.

you wonder why we walk past bushes,trees e.t.c & randomly pick leaves off them?

it is quite odd, i bet mostl people walking past a tree will always pick a leaf.. it is so weird, it is something most people do without thinking.

I am a leaf picker, I do it out of boredom, and I tend to fiddle the leaves between the fingers. I have always done it. I like to fiddle as it passes time when I am walking by a bush, bur try to avoid the spiders.

It depends on what you mean.

We pick off dried leaves or dried flowers from the plant to make it look better and in the case of the flowers we remove them so as to give the nutritious substance of the plant to the growing part of the plant which might be another flower or fruit.

Or do you mean to ask why when walking past a plant or tree we have an irresistible urge to pull off a few leaves?  

Some peole just like the smell of rubbing evergreen leaves together.  It is really clean smelling so it is a pleasant thing to do.

It is the same thing for some herbal plants. It is simple nice to do.

that is a very good question. sometimes i find myself doing that thing, and thinking to myself, why am i doing this and why cant i stop. i also do it to long grasses, i have to pull the fronds off them. (if fronds is the right word)
