Question:

Why do we say "the government are making 'xyz' free to all" instead of "taxpayers will be obliged to pay for"

I get a bit tired of hearing of all the things the government is going to make 'free' for me.

For everything they 'give' me, they take the money back from me in taxes, and add all their (inefficient) handling and administration over heads to on top.

Before anyone says "but you could'nt afford..." - where do you think all the governments money comes from?? They don't create it! If the government can supply something from the tax take, then the public can (self evidently) afford it if they choose to do so - at least they could if they handn't handed over most of their money in taxes....

  1. Quite right.  I find it odd that so many seem to think that  the government is somehow being "generous" by handing our "free" this or "free" that.

"With the cost of things today we NEED these handouts," they will say.  But that completely ignores the fact that if the government was not taking so much money in tax in the first place, they would not need the handouts, because the cost of living would be so much lower.

It is basically nothing more than thinly-disguised communistic ideas, where the politicians try to take as much of your hard-earned money as possible so that THEY can decide who they believe is worthy of being allowed to benefit from it by way of welfare payments and "free" goods or services.  After skimming off a huge amount for themselves in the process, of course, to pay for their expenses and to keep thousands of civil servants in paper-pushing jobs who would otherwise have to do some productive work.

  2. What you need in America is to see where you money goes to right now.

Then think of how you would like to change where it goes to

Nothing is free, true, but YOUR money could be better spent

  3. all main three parties are from the same establishment root ball. they will say any thing, con any one, steal! deceive and openly lie!! to hold on to power. our political system is a sic old man that needs to be put in a retirement home. people are not uneducated fools that believe any thing you tell them any more. its time the establishment woke up to it.

  4. YES! : )

There ARE people out there who can see through the sh*t!

I can feel a cup of tea coming on...maybe a biscuit too...

  5. Because Labour need to some real big support right now, so by  targeting pensioners and family's, they believe they can win there votes back.

  6. and in the next breath they say that hospitals, post offices, etc are not making a profit so they need to be closed, these are all "free" public services that are paid for by taxes and were never intended to make a profit, also why are they threatening schools with closure if they don't preform, aren't the gov responsible for running the schools in the first place?

  7. Because the government thinks that if they tell us it is free often enough, we will believe them. Yet another example of how those in charge think the rest of us are just stupid.
