  1. lightning strikes  firstt be4 we hear thunder

  2. the speed of light is much faster than sound.  If you see lightening off in the distance, you can figure out how far away it is by counting off the seconds it takes from the flash  of lightening to the thunder.  If I remember correctly, it takes about 4 seconds for the sound of thunder to travel a mile.

As a kid, I learned to say 1 hippopotamus, 2 hippopotamus, etc to approximate each second.

  3. Because the speed of light is much faster than the speed of sound.

    (186,000 mps versus 761 mph)

  4. no no no its because lightning forms thunder its that simple you should check on sites i have thats wat they say. and the person on top thats right.

  5. ya ,both of them occur at same time, but light travels faster than sound ,so we can see lightning first .

  6. Some times lighting comes after thunder.
