  1. It's a feeling of low self esteem and reality. We sometimes feel that what we settle for is acceptable, when it really isn't. At the same time, what we sometimes deserve can seem to be a false reality, and so we just learn to deal with what we have. However, it could also just be a problem of self confidence. We might sometimes believe that what we deserve is out of reach, so we settle for what we already have, even if we do deserve better. Or, for a more internal person, this could also a form of self punishment, because we can sometimes make ourselves settle for less that what we deserve to teach ourselves a lesson in strength.

I don't think it could be a feeling of self humility, because everyone always wishes for better than what they have; whether they want to admit t or not. And also, I don't think it would be an opportunity to rise and shine like you said, because we like to settle and stay where we are. We don't like drastic change, for better or worse. A change for the worst can provide a strong blow of shock, while a change for the best can hit hard over our heads, and can become overwhelming. If someone wanted to shine, they wouldn't wait; they would seize the opportunity to rise above whenever they were given the chance.

Sorry to disagree with your thoughts, I just wanted to give you my two cents.

    Peace.

  2. Or perhaps we don't actually deserve better but we are vain and think we do.

  3. Sadly, I think we all are our own worst enemy's. It is just the way we go about doing things.

  4. Good question - maybe it's a feeling of inadequacy - maybe a feeling of there is always SOMEONE  better than ourselves - maybe it's easier to do what we have always done, maybe the THOUGHT of failing is enough to stay in your own safety zone - as I have read so often - the most successful people seem to be the biggest risk takers, yes they might fail, but they get back up dust themselves off and start all over again. I truly don't know, maybe the people who feel they have nothing to loose, try harder than people who feel they have everything to loose. Good luck in your quest.

  5. jane, many times it is a financial matter. we have a job that pays our bills,  i feel that is why we sometimes allow ourselves to setttle for less than we rightly deserve for

that very reason. if you have a job you have some cash

flow coming in to you our bills.

  6. Due to inertia.

  7. The only real problem is failing to grasp everything that is possible.  What we attained and what we deserve are mere concepts.  The best we can be is malleable, open, receptive and grounded....and to appreciate everything that comes to you.

Other than that we are using the mind to torment itself...
