  1. Theoretically it's so we'll get some understanding about what's important in this country, based on what our national priorities have been.

Trouble is, what we get is the sanitized version that paints the "God is on our side" picture and pretty much ignores the grim and grizzly and embarrassing realities.

  2. Americans study US history because it defines who we are.

  3. The more you study history, the more you'll understand the future.

  4. We really don't  They constantly change the history.  The books I used and the stories I learned are quite different than the ones I see in my kids books today.  You think that is bad starting this year they are re writing some history stories to make them show that there were g*y indian tribes and presidents in our past and this is supposed to make it ok and acceptable for our kids today.  This is why I do not do public school anymore for my kids.

  5. In the USA we study our history to teach our youth how this nation came to be.  Without learning it people wouldn't know the sacrafices our founding fathers made and the risks they took to defy Great Britian.  The also would fail to learn the hardships that the newly formed nationed faced as an infant country.  Also the USA was one of the first nations to guarentee rights for it citizens, so that you could live free of persecution.  We also learn history to find out how we expanded from 13 colonies/states to 50 states.

There is also the history of all the inventions that came from US citizens that not only effected life in the USA but around the world.  Inventions that led to the Industrial revolution, flight, and steel ships.

We also study it to learn about the wars we have fought to guarente our freedom, help stop the spread of empires like Germany and Japan in WWII.

While the USA is a young nation compared to the rest of the world, our history has shaped a great deal of events since our birth.  So I say learn as much as you can, as it might suprise you what you didn't know.

  6. The reason that we study history at all is to better understand the present. Since the events currently occurring throughout the world on a daily basis are reliant on previous events, we must study the latter events to understand why the current events are occurring. History is a study of the cause and effect relationships between countless events that ultimately lead to the current day.

  7. Well we learn about history because if we dont than if could happen all over again. Would you like the Houlacuast or WW1 or 2 to happen again? No i didnt think so. So if you learn about it than theres a better chance that it wont happen again.
