Why do we tip the girl at the coffee shop who merely pulls a lever so we can have a hot drink but not a teacher who influences your life daily?

  1. b/c coffee is really good. plus if you go to coldstone they sing a song if you do lol!

  2. Teachers never helped me, ever.

Girl at coffee shop might be cute, she deserves it.

  3. I hate this idea of tipping people that just prepare coffee drinks.  I generously tip people who serve me at a dining table, but I draw the line at tipping someone who merely pumps a cup of coffee.  Sometimes I have asked for a large order of coffees and pastries and the staff have made a kind effort to pack it so I could easily carry it, etc...in those cases, I left tips.

I always give teachers a generous gift at the end of the year and for the holidays, but I think they would get insulted if I left daily tips on their desk.  They are educated professionals after all.  I think they deserve a lot more salary but not in the form of tips.

  4. I dont tip the girl at the coffee shop but to answer your questions... teachers work on salary and the coffee shop girl makes about 50 cents an hour

  5. becuase a teacher doesnt "serve" you.

  6. You do tip the teacher by paying for school and lunch and all that good stuff. That goes towards the teachers pay check.

  7. she is on salarie and the clerk more than likely is not

  8. Ha! I don't tip the barista!

  9. intresting thought! ... to tip in respect is ot like to tip in desire.

  10. Thats a very good question! Fortunately for teachers they get paid by salary, bonuses, raises, summer vacations, class trips, teacher awards and so forth and she is there to make sure you get an education, not always the education you deserve but its an education.

Now the girl at the coffee shop, First of a is probably a pretty lil thing, making sure you get the customer service you deserve, she puts on a smile refills your cup when you want it and puts up with alot of unnessecary b.s. from people and doesnt get paid nearly as what a teacher does, no bonuses no summer vacations, shes always rushed into making sure her service is fast and taking care of other people all the time and when her service is not good enough people wine and complain and she is barely making a little over 2.33 per hr and still has alot more to deal with than what I just rambled off, so its a code of ethics in our society to tip the waiteress or your coffee girl cuz she makes sure you get the service you deserve and she does it with a smile for that little tip that  you give her be nice next cuz she does not have to give you good service!

  11. Because we see teachers every day, and to tip them every day would add up.  I do agree though that we should, but teachers are people that are a normal part of your life, and to tip them, in the opinions of many, would be too expensive.

Plus, teachers get a lot more money than people at coffee shops or anywhere else.

  12. The girl at the coffee shop has a much sexier outfit

  13. the coffee girl needs the tips more than the teacher...thats why shes a coffee girl

  14. because the restaurant salary system is retarded where the employer relies on customers to pay his waiters' salaries instead of him.

  15. teachers are professionals and do this job not only because of the money, but because they enjoy it.  coffee shop workers are not professionals and they may not enjoy their job, plus they need the money

  16. Because the person at the coffee shop gets paid $5 an hour while the teacher gets paid $100 a day. I guess you have a point tho...
