  1. here in chicago, gas prices are bewteen 3.50-4.50!! its insane, and so stupid that the nation has their own oil resources yet they have to buy form other nations to "save" for the future, we probably or hopefully won't even use gasoline anymore! just a waste of money and we are polluting the earth!!!

  2. Here in Lake County il (north of Chicago) it is 3.75 What can we do?

My wife is a Hospice care worker, she cares for dying people that are all over the suburbs. Public transportation is a joke.

    The end is near.

  3. Here in Indiana outside of Chicago the price is $3.59 for regular.  The high prices will finally force the auto makers to produce cars that turn in better mpg than 20.  My 1988 Pontiac Grand Am was rated 24 city/34 highway.  The car turned in 30 mpg plus on many trips.  In the intervening years, cars have gotten heavier and the mpg has stagnated.  One segment of the transportation industry that will benefit this summer and beyond will be motorcycles and scooter.  Friend at work rides a Honda 250 Helix.  70 mpg!  For a commuter, that is a huge savings both in money and fuel.  I also have hopes the public will finally see bicycling as a viable means of transportation.  I have used my bicycle to commute to four different jobs.  Maddeningly for many years  there was such a huge indifference toward cyclists.  Today so many roads are horrible and unsafe to ride on.  And don't get me started on the lack of quality of drivers on the road today.  I hope when the price of gas hits $5.00 that some of these drivers will get a clue and give bicyclist a bit of leeway.  Many will be riding their bike for commuting and running errands.  Sadly we are paying for our blase attitude toward conservation.  As the guy above me from Chicago will attest, today was cold and rainy.  I rode my motorcycle home tonight with temps at 37F and raining.  But my Honda gets 32 mpg vs my 18 mpg van.  Next I want to look at a reel type lawn mower.
