Question:

Why do weather forcasts list the high first?

My husband and I are in disagreement about whether or not weather forecasts are listed from noon to noon, or midnight to midnight.

Example: "The high today will be around 70 with a low of 35deg"

To state the obvious... I know that midnight O'1 is technically the beginning of the day, but it just doesn't make sense that the "HIGH" is listed first and most of the forecasts you see or hear say " TONIGHT'S LOW" meaning the dark, cold half of a 24 hr period. And besides why would any forecaster continue to state all day long, a temperature that already was? So, to reiterate my inquiry, do forcasts run from noon-to-noon or midnight-to-midnight? Proof would be nice.

  1. It depends on whether you are watching the morning news or the evening news. Morning news lists today's high and tonight's low. Evening news lists tonight's low and tomorrow's high.

  2. The high is usually occurs during the daytime when much of our activities are taken place. The low occurs during night time and not as much important when we are sleeping, apart from rugged ourselves up.

  3. I'm guessing because in english, "high" is higher than "low". haha.
