  2. When the clouds turn black/grey it is the indication of a thunderstorm. The reason they turn black is all the little dirt and pollution particles in the clouds. It turns black because its ready to burst as rain, snow, hail or sleet (sometimes acid rain).

  3. Clouds turn dark gray because they are growing so tall they become too thick for light to penetrate through them. The less light that comes through, the darker the skies will become. Thunderstorms have very tall clouds like 40,000 feet and taller, so that is why during a thunderstorm the skies become very dark.
