Why do women dress up?

Why do women dress up and wear uncomfortable shoes, revealing clothing, heavy make-up and get their hair done and say it's for themselves? When they hang out at home they dress down and wear no make-up. If they did all these things for themselves wouldn't they want to do it when they are alone?

  1. Please see your other, almost identical, question.....

Freedom, isn't that like conforming?  You are conforming to the exact opposite of what you are "expected" to and thus, being just as fake as those who conform.

  2. I do it for myself and because I like being attractive to my husband (I don't mind looks from other men because it gives me a little boost). Now, I don't rely on my feeling attractive to my husband to carry my self-worth but it does feel good plain and simple.

  3. Dressing up is fun, and I feel more confident when I feel I look my best...  At home is different... That's totally about comfort...

  4. "Why do women dress up and wear uncomfortable shoes, revealing clothing, heavy make-up and get their hair done and say it's for themselves? "

I really wish people would stop assuming things about all women.

And why can't it be for themselves?  When I put on lipgloss or whatever, it's for me, not for anyone else.  I care about what I look like.

'When they hang out at home they dress down and wear no make-up. '

The same reason why people don't wear suits and blazers at home.  What's your point?

"If they did all these things for themselves wouldn't they want to do it when they are alone?"

On one hand, I understand where you're going with this, but I don't believe that all women get dressed to impress others.  Maybe getting yyour hair and nails done and going out makes you feel good.  It doesn't mean that you're doing it for someone else.

And, about the heels thing: You don't have to wear them to look good.  I'm all for doing your hair and wearing a little makeup, but teetering around like a newly born calf?  It's ridiculous!

  5. They do it to intimidate female competition.

Most men would still find women attractive if they wore potato sacks.

  6. when i dress up, it gives me a huge boost of confidence.

of course, i don't usually do it at home, because you really don't need a whole lot of self-esteem to watch tv. lol.

  7. EXACTLY!

    we dress to impress =]

but really we cant stand all that goo on our faces and those heels (except the comfy ones) and that stuff that damages our hair

    i agree with you

  8. I love dressing up, not only does it makes me feel good but it presents myself as the best that I can be.  But I do agree sometimes some women just put on too much make up, I then to go for the natural look, to enhance is always best.  Oh  and what woman does not want to look her best?  =P

  9. to look nice and attractive!

  10. I don't. I purposely try not to fit a stereotype.

  11. they dress up to look good for other people actually

  12. Just like some guys will do almost anything to appear more masculine to the s*x they are trying to attract (building muscles, etc), some women will do almost anything to appear more feminine to the s*x they desire. It's all based on our primitive animalistic nature for s*x. Even you do it in your own way to those that you find attractive.

  13. Freedom Forever: If you consciously fight stereotypes, that means they've won. They've had an affect on you.

Best thing to do with stereotypes is just ignore them, if you fit them, who cares? if you dont, who cares?

I believe women dress up to boost their confidence.

Men dress up too you know, when i go out i always wear my best clothing and make sure my hair isn't looking crappy.

  14. I do it when I am home alone too.  I like to dress up all the time now.  There was a time when I was too heavy and I didn't ever dress up due to poor self esteem.  Now I do it to boost myself.  I do my chores in heels hon.... just because I can and honestly I enjoy it.  Stuff is uncomfortable because either you have the wrong size or you just aren't use to wearing it enough.  So I wear heels all the time so I am frankly now very comfortable in them.  Revealing clothing turns my crank... having my hair done gives me a feeling of self worth.  I LIKE ME.......now......

  15. To make a good impression with the CEO, at the job interview, the political dinner, meeting the parents, big events, clients who can make you a snit load of money if they like you and of course to impress potential or current mates in their lives.

You do know Men dress up for all the same reasons. Like guys love and adore tie's, jackets and cumber buns.
