The Hollywood fantasy of the liberated, happy prostitute who made the concious choice to sell her body for s*x is a damaging and dangerous fiction that male dominated societies are more than happy to perpetuate because it removes the responsibility from the man in the fact that he is paying to rape someone. (It is rape because the woman would likely not be having s*x with him if not for the promise of money, making the cash exchange the coercive force as opposed to violence.) Sexual access to women has been (and still is) seen as a right for men and society outwardly encourages the objectification and commodification of women and their sexuality. Pornography and male centric products such as "Axe bodywash" are prime examples of this.

Throughout the world women are most often forced into selling their bodies because of the oppressive, male-dominated patriarchal, societies that treat women a inferior and limit their access to education and opportunities for working outside the home. Certainly there are male prostitutes, but the conditions under which a person is forced to sell their bodies for money can and often does differ for the two genders based on social and economic reasons.

Actually, almost everyone has to if they want a higher paying position. They have to look healthier coz that makes them appear stronger and less problematic/costly.

I think some men do sell their bodies.  probably not as many as women who do, because there's less of a market for them.

Some women become prostitutes out of poverty, and the lack of other opportinuties, some do it because they like it, I suppose.  there's probably a variety of reasons.

Men sell there bodies also its just more common and mainstream in moves etc to see woman doing it.  

It also goes to the fact that men in some cases have more jobs available to them then woman do in some places.

EDIT: Read some of the answers...there are fewer male prostitutes for very obvious reasons. The main one is that if a woman wants to get laid, all she really has to do is go to the nearest bar and strike up a conversation with just about any guy. She will not be lacking company in the morning. We are the selectors. Men, as the selected, go to prostitutes when their courtship attempts fail, and even then, not all of them do.

If you don't approve of prostitution, don't be a hooker, don't hire a hooker, and don't date guys who go to or have gone to hookers. Simple as that.

lots of guys need mony to... but they can only sell there bodies to OTHER MEN...  thats y theres not near as many men doing it as women...  theres not as many g*y men to be there costomers... an not as many strait men r willing to turn g*y jus for mony...
