Men for the last few millennium or so have worked grueling jobs. Dangerous jobs that often lead to stress and an early grave. As more women enter the work force the average life between men and women should marginalize and be similar.

I think the birthrate between men and women are roughly the same, but it is a fact; women do outlive men.  The insurance actuarial tables will bear that out.  Ever notice that the life insurance rates are cheaper for women at the same age as men?  That's because statistics prove that men, on the average die at a younger age.  Why, I'm not sure, but the women are unfortunately caltching up with us men, due to changes in lifestyles, stress-levels, and such.  

Also consider the disproportionate number of male soldiers killed.  That contributes to the imbalance too.

Yes more females are born than males.  In polluted areas there is high female birth rate.  Why?  To make more babies, since pollution might drastically decrease infant mortality rate.  I read this in Scientific American.

War really mostly men are in wars and get killed so the numbers  decrease. Plus most time men are killed in everyday things and not women because killing a woman is seen as more cruel then a man.
