Question:

Why do women over 40 shop in the juniors department?

Is it because your thin? You want to look young? Because the clothing is cheaper? I think most women over the age of 30 who shop in juniors look unprofessional and look even older. Granted I might get a pair of juniors PJ's but I would never wear that style clothing again and to work or out in public. What is with this trend with not wanting to grow up?

  1. Because that is wear all the cute clothes are!  I guess that I am ancient since I am going to hit 40 next year.  85% of what I buy in not from the juniors department, but once and a while I do find some cute items, mostly skirts, that I wear when my husband and I go downtown to some clubs (yes, people over 40 can actually go out and dance and have fun without dying).  I pair them with a non-juniors top and we are good to go!!

There is a difference between buying all of your clothes from the juniors dept and trying to pass yourself off as younger than you are and buying a few items to compliment your wardrobe.

  2. Im not over 30 yet, but i still shop in the juniors because their sizes fit me better.  For my body shape, the women's sizes seem to be "mom jeans" and are too high waisted.  Maybe you consider that "grown up" but i plan to still have a figure, and dress appropriately.  Also, for whatever reason, the junior shirts look like maternity shirts, which are perfect for young petite pregnant women, who probably won't be big enough to wear the clothes at "motherhoodmaternity"

I agree with you somewhat, but i have to say the worst is when someone over 22 wears pig tails --whats that about?

  3. trying to be cool

  4. I don't know, I'm not over 30.

  5. there are reasons like they either want to feel young or there shopping for there daughters or sons or they like the style of the youngs teens and arent fitting into there department

  6. maybe theyre shopping for their children? have you thought of that? even if theyre by themselves its most likely its for their kids!

  7. Where I come from, women over forty who dress in clothes that are not appropriate for their age are called "cougars."  Sometimes these women also are interested in younger men, and pursue them at bars or clubs.  One in my area is renowned for Saturday nights being "Cougar Saturday."

I personally think that these women are looking for a self-esteem boost.  By wearing clothes that are made for younger women, they feel like they are younger and will attract younger men.

I really don't understand it.  Aging gracefully should become a trend once more.  Out with the Mariah Carrey phase, right?  I don't want to see another 40-something woman wearing a pink miniskirt for the rest of my life.

  8. As a woman, you should understand, there is no explaining style.

  9. My wife goes there because she is small and often it is the only stuff she can find that fits her.

That said, the fashions are so different now, that she can't wear most of the stuff that they have in the juniors department anyway (because they LOOK like they're intended for teenagers, not grown women).  Never the less, she will sometimes go look to see if there is anything she might pull off.

  10. I don't know but when I'm in the juniors department and there is a woman that's like 30 or 40 I kind of get scared. If its just PJ's that doesn't really matter.

  11. The low lives outnumber the refined.

  12. Because the sizes in the women's dept. are too big and too old fashion.

  13. This is a little bit offensive but...

I'm approaching 34.  I am far from wanting to wear "old ladies" clothing!

I'm not trying to look like a "teenager' either. Trust me...OLD LADIES like me. ,.. are annoyed by teenagers ( you'll understand one day when you're OLD)

I feel most like 'myself' when I wear jeans and an american eagle t-shirt or something similiar. This is my taste..this is what I buy!

Once you're 40 do you have to start shopping at Northern Reflections??   Do you have to start wearing 'slacks and an old lady blouse and nursing shoes'?

Could those ladies also be shopping for their daughters?

Don't be so rude about this.. accept that OLD LADIES in their FORTIES are people too!

  14. I agree it's kind of disgusting. I don't think it's because they want to look young, I think it's because they just like the look of it. There are tons of places for people their age that have good clothes, I just don't realize why they can't go shop there. I could never imagine going to work in clothes that were from the juniors section. I would feel stupid and, like you said, unprofessional. I hate whenever I'm in a place like Nordstroms and I see a middle aged woman buying tops and short denim skirts. And being skinny isn't an excuse either, because there are tons of stores that sell clothes for skinny people as well as normal people for women their age. And most stores have petite sections too.

  15. because the clothes in the petite section suck and they want clothes that fit? idk

i have to wear girl pants sometimes because it's so hard to find guy pants that fit me

  16. Why can't people shop where they like?  It never occurred to me to 'judge' my fellow shoppers on whether they had the right to shop where I shop.  It's a free world where I live.

  17. i saw that on montel....

And YES it is so annoying! It looks gross. DOnt older women understand that When they dress their own age they look so much younger than they actually are instead of wearing skin tight abercrombie when you 47. It looks grossssss.....

    God Bless.

P.S: If women are small they can go to the petite section of any department store!!! Even my 4'11" aunt knows that!

  18. Maybe it's because junior size clothing proportions fit their bodies better. I knew a man who was so short he had to shop for his clothing in youth departments. Always embarrassed him terribly.

  19. my mom is 41 and she is size 0 and does not look old, also, whats wrong with trying to feel young, no offense but when you are over 40, i bet youll be shopping in the juniors department, and finally you dont know the situation their in, maybe its not for them, its for a niece or daughter, so never ask stupid and harsh questions like that ever again

  20. Lol. I just saw a tv talk show and it was talking about older woman dressing up like they're teenagers. It's because they want to look younger then they are. They think they look good, but in real life; they do not look so great.

  21. I agree completely, after a certain age, a woman should have some degree of maturity in her life, including the way she dresses.  MID LIFE CRISIS ALERT is what this screams out to me.  These ladies probably starve themselves, work out 2 hours a day, so they can share sizes with pre adolecent girls.  My guess is they never had their day in the sun, they never got to be "hotties" even when they were young, and they are trying to achieve, who knows.

  22. Cause they want to be young again...
