Why do women say this?

Why do some women say "hey guys" when they greet their female friends?

It's weird to me. Shouldn't they say "hey girls?"

I think it's just a generalization. Kinda like how southern folk say "hey y'all," even if it's just one person.

I say Hey Guys to everyone, male or female.  Hey Girls just sounds lame and unnatural to me.

I do it, I guess it's habit and we aren't referring to them as men, but just as people in general.

Guys don't mean guys it's just something to say. Hey guys as in loyal friends how you are doing? lol

Gals is rarely ever used.

'guys' is informal for a group of men, women or men and women together, so no there's nothing wrong with this. think you're looking a little too deeply into things?

The term "guys" (in that context) has become non-gender specific these days and is much like saying "hey you all" or "hey y'all".
