Why do women turn green with envy around women that are more attractive or smarter etc. than them

duh, they are! its only natural to want to rise to the top so when confronted with someone who is in your own view better you will want to either surpass them or crush them.

The feminist answer would be Melissa D. It's got nothing to do with women it's the media and everyone else. Women have to work harder - another falacy. Women believe they have to work twice as hard as a man to get anywhere but the facts are they only have to work twice as hard as a woman and the same as a man to get anywhere. The pretty woman gets the job - not so however, the taller you are the more money you will earn. The more symetrical your face the more money you will earn. All irrespective of gender.

Now to the truth. Women compete with each other for male attention. A s**y woman will get more attention from males. Unsexy women will then whinge and ***** about her and wish to stab her in the back at any opportunity bcoz their vanity is all encompassing.

I don't view anyone as 'better than me'--but, I'm not a naturally jealous person either... I have alot of attractive friends and ones that have better jobs or more moeny than I do as well--doesn't bother me in the least...we all are different~

Women are always going to be in a "competition" with each other.  The media as well as society demands that women look and act a certain way, and if you don't fall into that category, you're not good enough.  And men follow those guide lines as well.  If you're overweight or you don't seem educated enough or what have you, then you will never get a man in your life, and you feel lonely.  Women tend to have low self esteem and confidence.  We have to compete for top jobs a bit harder than a man does, and if you have great qualifications for that job but not beautiful, and the prettier girl has looks but not as much of a qualifying ability, pretty girl gets the job.  The reasons go on for a long time.
