Why do women watch beauty pageants?

Because they've sucked into the lie that beauty pagaents and everything they stand for is "okay", and "what us women are made for".  

These same women are the ones who think that Hollywood Celebrities are a good representation of the average woman.  They suck into the lie that the way a celebrity looks in a movie or a picture is the way they actually look in real life.  They're quite lost actually.

I think it is fun to watch them, see what they're wearing, which one you think will win, your opinions vs. the judges, etc.  It defiantly isn't anything I watch as a deep conversational piece...it is simply enjoyable.

I only glance at Ms Universe, and that's only to see who they pick to represent each country.  I don't believe that pageants are "degrading" or "exploitative" because I don't allow a random group of strangers to validate who I am.

On some level... women typically only watch and observe other women in order to compare themselves to other women.  They just may not always consciously be aware of it.

Well, I think some women watch them sometimes to criticize-I know its a bad thing but I'm being honest. Women can be overly critical of one another (ie-look at her ugly dress, she is not that cute, etc.) It's a vicious cycle. I don't support beauty pageants because I think beauty is subjective.

I think psychologically, women love beauty just like men. Perhaps we watch it because it is fun and entertaining, or for tips on how "we should look" or better yet- to compare and contrast ourselves with the other women.

Women compete through beauty.

It is through beauty that women control men and this is why beauty pagents are so highly prized by women.

I love to look at the evening gowns, laugh at the dumb answers to questions, and watch the first runner up pretend she is thrilled that the other girl won.

Because beauty pageants are all about women--- competitions on who's the most beautiful, who has the best talent, who's the friendliest, who's the smartest... Just like men who watch sports. They want to see who's the best and who/which team will win.

I've always wondered about that, too. My mom said that on her WEDDING NIGHT they watched the Miss America Pageant! Now what woman in her right mind would want her brand new husband gawking at a bunch of other women on their wedding night?

I love watching them and have since i was a little girl!

It's nice to see how women should be i.e. poise beauty, style.! Anyone who disagrees with that is simply jealous of the attention that they get!

I also, participated in pageants until i was 18. Which is when i went to college and didn't have the time to do so!

Call them beauty pageants, call them trash contests, or whatever you may want but people (women) like to see what it is that they haven't or wont become!

Jealousy is a natural thing among any animal.
