Just wondered how this came about, why is it women who wear them and not men. And why do women wear them when they are so uncomfortable? Is it just to be taller? Some women are already tall so whats the point?

  1. I'm not too sure on the origin, but I can tell you why they are popular:

    A)  They make you taller, and try walking in heels without naturally swaying your booty when you walk.  Next time you're wearing them, or notice a girl who is, pay attention to any men in close proximity.  You might be surprised as to how much gawking the shoes generate.

    B)  They create killer S curves, one at the heel, again at the back of the knee, and the small of the back.  A triple threat to men.  Many girls don't even know what pumps actually do for your s*x appeal.

  2. they make me feel sexier. i used to loathe them, but i had to start wearing them to work. now i love them.

  3. Because it makes you ladies look hot and s**y.

  5. Women started wearing them because it supposedly made their legs look nicer to attract men. Not sure when it started, they do make your calves look better!

  6. it makes your legs look longer and sexier

  7. They make you look more s**y because they emphasis just how long and desirable your legs really are. They make you walk with an even more provocative wiggle.

  16. Raised up heels are stated to have been a response to the problem of the foot slipping forward in stirrups while riding. The simple riding heel gave way to a more stylized heel over its first three decades.

Reasons for wearing high-heels, which are almost exclusively aesthetic, include:

they change the angle of the foot with respect to the lower leg, which accentuates the appearance of calves

they change the wearer's posture, requiring a more upright carriage and altering the gait in what is considered a seductive fashion

they make the wearer appear taller

they make the legs appear longer

they make the foot appear smaller

they make the gluteal muscles more defined while wearing tight pants

they make the wearer look flexibly strong.

  17. Manybe it was to make us look taller and of course most importanly to reach tall matcho men lol!!:)

  18. It's a self-induced torture device.  I don't know why we do it.  It does make your legs look nice, but at the price of aching and sometimes deforming your feet, and back trouble later on.

Oh the things we do for beauty!!

  19. The simple riding heel gave way to a more stylized heel over its first three decades. Beginning with the French, heel heights among men crept up, often becoming higher and thinner, until they were no longer useful while riding, but were relegated to "court-only" wear. By the late 1600s men's heels were commonly between three and four inches in height.

In 1533, the diminutive wife of the Duke of Orleans, Catherine de' Medici, commissioned a cobbler to fashion her a pair of heels, both for fashion, and to increase her stature. They were an adaptation of chopines (elevated wooden soles with both heel and toe raised not unlike modern platform shoes), but unlike chopines the heel was higher than the toe and the "platform" was made to bend in the middle with the foot.

High-heeled shoes quickly caught on with the fashion-conscious men and women of the French court, and spread to pockets of nobility in other countries. The term "well-heeled" became synonymous with opulent wealth. Both men and women continued wearing heels as a matter of noble fashion throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. When the French Revolution drew near, in the late 1700s, the practice of wearing heels fell into decline in France due to its associations with wealth and aristocracy. Throughout most of the 1800s, flat shoes and sandals were usual for both sexes, but the heel resurfaced in fashion during the late 1800s, almost exclusively among women.

    I hope it helps!
