  1. Good question . Now that you mention it, there just aren't that many YIELD signs around anymore . I'm guessing that you might find them on private roads and a some side streets . About the dumbest place I've seen them (a while ago) was on the on-ramps to freeways . I almost got real intimate with a lady in Wichita, KS who was stopped on the on-ramp with a Yield sign as I (a Calif. driver) came blasting up behind her at highway speed . Pretty intense pucker factor.

  2. They are there to save on fuel. With out them we would ruin the planet.

  3. Because you cannot drive on many roads with just a yield or stop, you would have more accidents and many roads are not designed for just one type of sigh.

  4. A yield sign is just that, an advisement to yield only if there is traffic present on the road you are entering. A stop sign on the other hand means you must stop whether or not there is any traffic present. DOT's tend to use yield signs at the intersections of lightly traveled routes where there is good visibility. Stop signs are preferred at the more dangerous and heavily traveled intersections.

  5. If a yield sign can be used, the flow of traffic needn't be slowed as much as with a stop sign.
