Why do you Vancouver restaurants have patio heaters on in the middle of summer?

It's like 25C all day and you go to a resturaunt or bar to cool off and have a drink and the next thing you feel is this blast of heat from above. For those that don't like a nice cool breeze on your hot skin in the evening on a patio, bring a sweater or stay inside. It's summer!

Does anyone else hate propane heaters on patios? It ruins my meal.

  1. they use the heaters at night usually, if it's during the day (especially now) people must be on crack

  2. I am not sure but I belive the heaters are there because so many times Vancouver is rainy. Also, mosquitos and other bugs don't like the heat.

  3. Vancouver is by the ocean, so there is a definite breeze in the evening.  When the sun is up there is no need for the heaters, but they can be nice during the evening (even in summer).  I was on a rooftop patio in Victoria BC last night, and it was very nice to have the heaters!  However, the restaurant needs to have a policy on turning them on or off, and have seating to accomodate people of all temperatures!

  4. well.. you could always ask one of the waiters to turn the heater off....
