Question:

Why do you believe in 'God'? Seriously, give me a good reason?

You believe in God because you have either read about him or have been told about him right? What if he hadn't been mentioned at all in your life and you knew nothing of him? Would you create the idea of a God for something to believe in? Or would you simply live your life on your own without the help of a 'God' you knew nothing about? If you didn't know of him, you wouldn't be living up to his apparent high expectations, would you?

This 'God' theory is practically brainwashing most people. Why can't you live for yourself? Why do you feel the need to please someone who doesn't appear to exist to non-believers?

Does having faith in 'God' put you at ease? Do you think you're all doing a brilliant thing by believing in this being and you shall all go to heaven because of it?

I really do not understand why some people believe in him. Can someone explain to me why most believers have such strong opinions and view points towards 'God'? And why those of us who do not believe feel as though Religion is forced upon us?

Thanks.

  1. I don't.  For the precise reason that there is no reason to do so.  People who do were probably raised that way by their parents.  See:

  2. well some of my family is christian, and i went to church when i was younger but never understood any of it really, all i knew is that there was a God. well when i got to a certain age i wanted to find out for myself so i started reading the bible and talked to family about God until i came to know what i know. i beilive in God because its like i can feel him there, not meaning i can literaly touch him but i mean when i get the holy ghost in me i literally want to be a better person and read my bible and help others, and i know that isnt something that just happens out of nowhere. whenever im scared and i pray its like i actually feel protected and safe. the reason why i cant live for myself is because without God i wouldnt be able to do anything, i would just be another person doing the same thing everyday for no reason at all, just doing everything by accident. when you beilieve and trust in God you do get something back from it, its hard to explain but its true. God bless.

  3. lol good reason?  Theres plenty but ill leave you with one for now.  Email me for me.

Everything that exists has a cause.  The universe exists.  Therefore, the universe has a cause.

Thats the cosmological argument and thats the most basic.  The premises are rational, and if you think not, then tell me.

  4. man created cars, airplanes, buildings, TVs, this website and forum was created by web designers and programmers.. with a purpose

this world, and the way it was constructed, with the sun shinning down on us to keep us warm, and to give us daylight, the way it rains to cool down temperature, and is very good for cropes.. everything in this world seems to function with some sort of purpose

my common sense tells me that God did that..

and that is just one of the many reasons why I believe

when a child is young, how does he/she know those two people, man and women are their parents. Did he/she see birth documents, did they get a blood test done, no... the child just knows, and believes in their heart that those are his/her  parents, nobody had to tell them that.. it came to them naturally

you said people either read about God or somebody had told them about God.. but everything I mention wasn't any reference to the bible or anything that had to do with people telling me about him... it is all common sense

everything that you learned about evolution does not come natural to you..

really the question should be "why don't people believe in God?"

since unbelievers are the minority... they should be questioning themselves..

  5. Seriously,  all my life , supernatural happenings are always happening.

Cried loud in the hospital .."... GOD get it out of me!.." Suddenly something took over shoving from the inside , stopping the physical pain. Calming me,  i knew all that was happening,i knew GOD took over.

    JESUS , the supernatural entity

Everytime pain happens,   i ask JESUS. ...aprx;   "JESUS, please take the soreness.. please stop the pain...     always the pain sometimes slowly goes , sometimes immediately.

    Thank You JESUS...

    Amen

  6. Finding god is only half the distance to go. You need to be able to ask questions and get a least a yes or no answer. If you just order god to do things you will not be a strong believer.

  7. How can you assume that I believe in god?

  8. Your logic is flawed. Doesn't not believing God put you at ease? Let you think you can do whatever you want? Stop kidding yourself. If this isn't true you have a double standard. You can't put off God as an emotional crutch for the "brain washed" if you can't admit you don't believe in order to escape guilt.

The only reason you would feel as though religion is forced upon you is if you were unsure of your beliefs. Perhaps you're not so sure there is no God?

This is the typical ignorant response to religious beliefs. You think the only reason we believe something is because thats what we grew up with, and that we blindly accepted it for absolutely no reason.

The main reason I believe in God is the evidence surrounding Jesus. His life was well documented, there is no real debate over the fact he existed and died on the cross because of his claims. He is either Lord, liar, or lunatic. He claimed to be God so either he really is, he is lying, or he's crazy.

What convinces me he told the truth is the events that followed his death and the record of those events in the gospels. The gospels were written within one generation of the crucification. If you read them you'd know that they claim Jesus died and rose again.

Let me mention again that these accounts were written within one generation of the act. That means the first people to read it would be the people who actually witnessed the events that are accounted in the gospels, including the crucifixion. Now then, if Jesus really didn't rise from the dead the people of that time could have easily said, "no that's not true, come, I'll show you his body." But that's not what happened, in fact the church spread rapidly, despite the risk of torture and death.

Mind you this isn't Muslim terrorist jihad, this was people standing up for what they saw with their own eyes.

It goes against all reason and human nature to suggest that these people, and I'm talking thousands, would endure such torture in the face of a lie.

  9. Yes, I've gotten a much better understanding of him by fellow believers and the Bible. Its just something I believe. Its very hard for me to not say know. Thats how strong faith can be! =)

How do you KNOW you have a heart? because you`ve felt it?

And felt emotions with it? you just know its there. then, have you got a better understanding about it from other fellow heart owners(everyone lol) and emotiopn 'experts'?

Hope that helps you understand how I feel about God =)

  10. It makes more logical sense to me that there is a God than there isn't; and since I don't try to push it on anyone it doesn't hurt anything

  11. No, I didnt really believe much of anything, I thought there might be, but suspected that maybe it was more of a whole, God started the earth and then just let things go from there.

Then one day someone challenged me to pray to my father in heaven and ask to know if the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints contained the full and true gospel.  So I did and I received an answer that I could never deny.  It was an amazing confirmation that God does exist.  Since then, I pray and receive answers and I cannot doubt that he is there anymore than I can doubt the wind blows.  I cant see either most of the time, but I can know they are there.

  12. I don't believe in God per say, I believe there is a higher power. I would have no choice to believe there is something out there for I have the ability to see ghosts, in that means there is an afterlife, if there is an afterlife there has to be a higher power running things.

I believe people have strong opinions and ram them down your throut is because they fear for themselves and feel if they recruit more it may save them? who knows?

Knowing there is something more out there gives you a sense of peace, enlightenment, knowing there is more after this life.

I believe in reincarnation til we learn what we need to here and then we end up in the spiritual realm. Call it what you will.

  13. Because situations happen in life that seem beyond the control of ... human or mankind... certain things are just amazing and you think to yourself... is there something beyond our control that caused this to happen. I am not a believer of churches, since ... they have all this money especially the catholic church... and build these gigantic buildings then preach about how to help the poor etc. And people always will create a self belief in God or something "greater".... it is human instinct that is why "God" the theory has been around since forever, no matter what culture you look at, some form or another there is a common belief in something greater. And if you want to admit it or not, you believe in God also... in one form or another, all humans do, because we believe that if we cannot control something, then there is something greater than us that must control it.

  14. First of all, if you say, "I really don't understand you..." you wouldn't understand even if I told you.  So there is no point of me answering.  Let me tell you what I don't understand: Atheists rather "go" with science but not God and his word.  They believe in evolution, etc... we are evolving? humm...  let me ask you, have you ever wondered there are no 1/2 monkeys 1/2 humans on earth now??  why are humans "very" different than other animals?? compare human families, marriages, languages, morals, evil, love, dreams, purposes, goals, society?  NO!  Humans aren't just like all other animals.  Do animals have the right to choose to believe in God or not?  nope!!

It takes faith in order for you to believe.  Faith is believing and not seeing.  If you want proof to believe in something, then it's not faith.  You cannot understand because you don't have faith and don't believe.  In my case, the Holy Spirit opened my "spiritual eyes" to see that his word is true.  and I have personal experiences.

Even if there was no Bible on earth, I'd still believe there is a loving God because God created us and I'd search him.

  15. I don't believe in god, and I totally agree with you all the way.

But if i don't believe in god does that automatically make me a bad person? I mean seriously that's how some people see it. I have never seen god, or has he helped me any way in my life, so why should i believe in something that doesn't exist? That's how i see it...

  16. I don't believe in god

You're right I don't think anyone would believe if they had not learned to believe, or if they had not been expected to believe.

Whatever though it makes some people happy I suppose.

  17. I believe in 'God' because I died during a severe grand mal seizure. I had no vital signs after getting to the ER and having twice the usual cardiac and other attempts to revive me. Somehow I came back, and I am told it was a miracle. I was never a religious person, but am now a very spiritual one ~there is a big difference. What I experienced during the time that I was clinically dead is personal to me, but I will never doubt the existence of a God again, and I do not fear death. It is not an end, it is a beginning.

  18. If I didn't know about "God" from books or from people, probably not.  I have yet to really have a need for "faith".  Whats puts me at ease is the fact that I'm a moral & ethical person as with my husband, family and friends and that I just simply enjoy my life one day at a time.

  19. I do whatever I feel like. I think whatever I want.

  20. The Quinque viae, or Five Ways, are five proofs of the existence of God summarized by St. Thomas Aquinas in his Summa Theologica. These proofs take the form of philosophical arguments:

       1. The argument of the unmoved mover (ex motu):

              * Some things are moved.

              * Everything that is moved is moved by a mover.

              * An infinite regress of movers is impossible.

              * Therefore, there is an unmoved mover from whom all motion proceeds.

              * This mover is what we call God.

       2. The argument of the first cause (ex causa):

              * Some things are caused.

              * Everything that is caused is caused by something else.

              * An infinite regress of causation is impossible.

              * Therefore, there must be an uncaused cause of all caused things.

              * This causer is what we call God.

       3. The argument from contingency (ex contingentia):

              * Many things in the universe may either exist or not exist. Such things are called contingent beings.

              * It is impossible for everything in the universe to be contingent, as something can't come of nothing, and if traced back eventually there must have been one thing from which all others have occurred.

              * Therefore, there must be a necessary being whose existence is not contingent on any other being or beings.

              * This being is whom we call God.

       4. The argument from degree or gradation (ex gradu):

              * Various perfections may be found in varying degrees throughout the universe.

              * These degrees of perfections assume the existence of the perfections themselves.

              * The pinnacle of perfection, from which lesser degrees of perfection derive, is what we call God.

       5. The teleological argument or argument of "design" (ex fine):

              * All natural bodies in the world act towards ends.

              * These objects are in themselves unintelligent.

              * Acting towards an end is characteristic of intelligence.

              * Therefore, there exists an intelligent being that guides all natural bodies towards their ends.

              * This being is whom we call God.

  21. You sound like such a nice person...but anyway I choose to believe in God because we couldn't have just magically appear there must be some creator and that is God...he must have love me enough to give his son to save me believe me their is a God and a beautiful angel that was kicked out of heaven that once beautiful angel is the Devil he is beautiful yet ugly he is beautiful enough to trick people into sin he tempts you to do certain things...in everything there is a good and bad in my opinion and in this world the good is God and the bad is the devil he doesn't love any of us he uses tactics totrick you into believe that there is no God sometimes he even trick you into believeing that he doesn't exist either...Religion was not forced on me God says whosoever will let them come...meaning he gives each of us a choice if you want it you can have it if you don't then you will remember that you had a chance and there were many times in which you were witness to and many times that you had a chance to believe that there is a God that created and love you enough to give you a second chance at life...the devil tempted Adam and Eve and of course the Bible tells us that the fell into temptation and that caused us to be seperated from God but he sent his only son to die for us meaning we have a second chance at life...IF you do not understand me then email me I promise you I will respond!!! Good to see that you at least want to hear about others opinions...Good start my dear

By the way: Even if God didn't exist I would still act the same way and do the same things its the easy way if you know what I mean..SMILES

Why not believe in something is it harmful to believe that he exist?

You have to believe in something or else you would fall for anything except the right thing

  22. I for one don't believe in "God" in the christian sense of the word. I have my own sort of religious beliefs about the universe and consciousness, but none have been taught to me.

Believing in something I think gives people purpose, it makes them have a reason for doing things. I for one am content just doing things for their own sake, but a lot of people like to believe that what they are doing is truly right, and God lets them justify this idea. This is another reason why it is so hard for them to give the idea up. There they are, perfect in the eyes of this God, and doing exactly what they were meant to do (according to God), and going to a beautiful place when they die. And then all these non-believers come up and think that they are silly, but the religious ideas they have are so comforting that they would not give them up.

  23. Why do you try to spark controversy with a bunch of preteens and angsty teenagers on this site instead of making and intelligent discussion with professors at universities or philosophers?

  24. Something made everything you see.  Explain it back to the VERY beginning and you can't go past a big ball of stuff that blew up and made the Universe.  If you ever read the Bible you could see that A LOT of things were predicted and actually happened later.  There is historical evidence to back up all the important stuff.  Do some research... really.  If you're wrong about you're atheism you've got a lot to lose, more than a Christian does if they were wrong.  Find out for sure, bud.

    Peace

  25. the indians did not know about God, and they made their own Gods. The only logical reason i can give to prove the existence of God is, the complexity of the human body. it had to be engineered by somebody, without a body.
