Why do you believe in the bible ?

It is accepted by followers of the bible that the universe is only thousands of years old. We can clearly see evidence or if we allow ourselves to see the evidence that there is proof set in stone(npi) that the earth has been here for at least millions of years.

Surely anyone with just an ounce of intelligence and rationality should use this evidence and question the validity of the bible which has been written by man. why do humans just tend to accept what they are told without question when the truth is right in front of them ?

It's not so much believing in the Bible as it is applying it to things. A lot of what the Bible says, between the Old and New Testament, contradicts itself. Thus said, as a Catholic I look to the Bible as a source of information to get closer to God--which should be the primary (and only, really) concern to Christians--not as a way to explain how things are and how they've been.

And when you mention the Earth being around for millions of years and whatnot, have you ever considered that when the Earth was made it probably wasn't in "seven days" our time, considering the amount of time people in the Bible lived back then. None of us were there, not even the scientists, so it's not like anybody KNOWS for sure how everything happened. It's about faith:)

Your premise is flawed.  The Bible does not teach that the universe is only thousands of years old.  This is a doctrine of man not a pronouncement in the Bible.

Try reading the Bible (with an open mind and heart) and see for yourself.   As you read the history (of thousands of years) of mankind's search for meaning and God, you might find enough wisdom in those pages to even make you a Christian.

Contrary to popular belief, We did not get a packet of *INSTANT HOLY* and a bottle of * INSTANT GOD`S KNOWLEDGE* the second we decided to follow God.  

We do a lot of critical analysis when we decided to follow God.. Take some time, dear one, to do your research before asking such a question. Most of the cities mentioned in the Bible have been either excavated and found, or are still inhabited. The evidence, that he has left, would stand in any court of the law.. You can NOT say the same of your evidence.. How many eye witness accounts do you need? How many miracles do you need? The Bible has been proven to be historically accurate as well as archaeologically accurate.. ((these peoples still inhabit the lands of the bible.. This is their history)) The do and did keep records. they have genealogies, tax records, Death records, criminal records, census records, Land records and etc.. There are over 600 writings regarding Jesus that have nothing to do with religion..

You have NO ( well, hardly any) evidence that stands up to real scrutiny, or at least nothing tangible to make me think otherwise..

1- Evolution is a theory. Thus : THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION. Here is the definition of Theory ..

1 - Abstract thought : speculation.

2 - A hypothesis assumed for the sake of argument or investigation.

3 - An unproved assumption : conjecture.

You (they) present the theory of evolution as: FACT.. Shame on you all.

The problem, I think, (in my humble opinion) stems from the fact that folks are *assuming* that 6000 years ago God created everything. When in fact the bible does not say what length of time passed between the creation of the world and when it was actually inhabited by the human race..

There is life in Bible which many people does not want to practice and see.  Carbon dating is discovered or invented according to the limited knowledge with availabe things.  Bible verses are inspired by the Holy Spirit only to do good to human.

To make a long story short, the universe and earth may be much older than the bible leads people to believe, the earth did exist before Genesis but it was empty and void, much like Mars is today, notice that the other inner planets and moons are, extending out to the astroid belt (long story) in Genesis, it is simply the recreation of Earth after it was previously destroyed, and thus this time Man was cast apon it.

This is a touchy subject but how some of the descriptions in the the earliest of the bible were in fact created by man through the inpsiration of the spirit of God. These people are only judged by the knowledge and information God gave them, thus the writer who lives an amount of time after creation did not know every single detail.

A side theory is that the universe and everything was created in any order. What you guys fail to do is open that tiny door in your brains and admit that God can create the universe in any order, these rocks may not have been created as fresh or new as you believe, perhaps those lab tests don't represent the history they give credit to.

Plus, for you hypocritical 'educated' science lovers out there, if you believe the bible is flawed. Evolution is not excepted as scientific fact, it is only taught as a means for excuse for ignorance and to try and desperately avoid religion. Scientists have even admited this. Evolution is the one lacking,  Missing evolutionary links? Faulty law of dna change and mutations? Sorry aithiests, your more delusional than us bible huggers. You will cling to anything and call it fact, even if its a simple idea or theory and spill it all over in attempt to drown your insecurities.

Look today, the book of revelation is obviously an accurate prediction, all the the predictions except for one in the end times has come true to the day that we currently stand. Look at our universe, sceince today is finding places described in the bible that has never been seen in modern times till recent discoveries, the solar system is tremendously fragile, 1 or 2 degrees change and we would fry or freeze, and with all of our studies of the universe is concluding to the fact that it is at this moment under the careful influence and care of a Godly force. Delusional are we?

It's always been MY understanding that when the Earth was created, parts and bits from other worlds were used to create it. I always assumed that THAT is where the "older than thousands of years" part came in. Obviously using something old to create something new, isn't going to change the age of the old... is it? Or am I delusional?

This sort of question is asked everyday. The Bible does not state that , or imply that the Earth is only thousands of years old. In Genesis, when the first day began, Earth had already been created. Therefor, the Bible does not disagree with science as to the age of the Earth, as it is not mentioned at all.

Maybe we are too materialise and need something spiritual to fill our mind.

I personally found it interesting to study all religions to understand their believe Especiallty those old believe like those in Egypt and others.

The pictures of old temple. The way they did their prayer and offer. It very interesting and we can see the differences how the people live from than and now. The culture different between different people from different area at different time.

Regardless of believer or non believer, I think the most important thing is to show respect to oneself by respecting the others.

Explore the world, learn from the history and create for the future.

there is no other proof about those scientific whatever without the bible. bible is the number one source of knowledge. it provides enough information about everything in this world.

and i will give you this query of, why the bible was written if it do not have any purposes?  why do it was given to us?
