  1. I think your question may be a bit too weighted in favor of Imports for you to get a decent market survey.

But to add some perspective too this, I have owned, and will own Imports as well as Euros and Domestics. Too be quite honest, there is really no difference now-a-days between the three. Despite what some people with their horror stories about how US built cars are the devil will try and lead you to believe.

I would recommend you look at the statistics put out by the large companies who's sample groups are much larger than Yahoo Answers.

Check my link below for the truth about what companies are really US/Asia/Europe based, along with their production and sales volume. That should get you started.

I hope this helps, I think it is more use full than someone just saying "I owned three Fords and they all broke, US sucks!".

  2. Cost

    Comfort

    Fuel Mileage

  3. Ironic. But I have the Reverse case.

My first car was 1989 Camry. I bought it when it had 120K miles. It gave me nothing but trouble. I ended up spending repairing that car than driving it. I ended up spending $5000 repairing it which is more than what I bought it. I did buy it from a Honda dealer but it started giving me problems within 2-3 months.

Another reason for not wanting to buy Toyota or Honda is because the Dealers are real pain. They nag you, harass you to no end. On top of that the yarn they pull on you is incredible. Now I know I will get spammed for this but that's my experience. To me they are vultures that are praying on you.

Couple of years ago I went along looking to buy a Matrix. The moment I got out of the car, they came onto me and wanted my car keys to appraise it and all that. I told them its a rental car to stop them. (It wasn't).

I went across the street to a Mazda Dealership & a Mitsubishi dealership. Both places were the most polite places compared to Vultures. I was decently attracted to the Mazda CX7 or 9 at the time. Was also attracted to the Mitsubishi Lancer.

Similarly, Pretty much all GM dealerships are the Relaxed places that make it a Point of marking themselves as No hassle places. Which they indeed are. I like to do the Test Drive on my terms and don't like the Dealer trying to push the car down my throat. I usually end up dealing with the Internet Manager since (s)he knows I am here to buy not waste his time. I don't give or receive c**p there.

As to the Used car lots, They all are pretty vicious. I did find that the Car Sales of Rental car companies & Carmax are absolutely fantastic places to do business in. Again don't get c**p there.

Does Made in America still means anything ?

    Internet Buying Vs. Traditional Buying.

One thing's for sure. I look for Quality & reliable vehicle. I won't buy Camry or accord as those are "only cars to buy". But then I will never buy Chrysler either. I am not siding with Made in America Label. But then I am not getting into the car that's dull drab or worse there's too many of it already. I want my car to stand out of Crowd. Especially won't follow heard mentality.

FWIW, One of my cars has a American Logo with Japanese Power train.

  4. yea i would buy 1, because they are built better and last longer.

  5. I buy Japanese cars because I want a car that will be reliable. Every American car I have owned broke early ( even new cars I bought) and cost a lot to fix. The Japanese cars I owned drove a lot farther and broke rarely and were cheaper to fix if they broke.

  6. 1) Better reliability in the class of vehicle I was interested in.

    2) Better resale value.

    3) Better styling.

    4) UAW stinks. Their operating procedures encourages manufacturers to want to produce Domestic vehicles in other countries (which is what is happening more and more).

As long as the big 3 continue to renew their contract with the UAW and drive their overall business into the ground, I would prefer not to support them.

Honda dealers are a royal pain, though.  They think you will pay extra for the name and act like other namplates don't matter in the trade-in 'game'.  I didn't have the same experience with Mazda or Toyota.

  7. Morethan another single thing...RELIABILITY.

  8. Japanese cars are more reliable than most American and European cars. They also have better fuel efficiency and can last a long time. Japanese cars also appeal to the mainstream, because most things seem like they go in place, and don't have to worry about going to the dealer often. American cars, on the other hand, are behind Japanese cars in terms of quality (fit and finish), and overall refinement (powertrain, handling, braking). American cars are so-so in reliability and crash-test results. European cars are known for exceptional performance, and aspects such as fit and finish, but don't know how to make good interaction systems. Brakes in European cars are the best, because they are hard to overheat in repetitive hard braking. European cars are also very safe, but most require premium fuel. Hope this helps.

  9. I own a japanese car and will buy japanese cars for as long as I live.. reason you ask? OK here you go:

I owned a brand new 99 cavalier and the engine broke before the car went over 20K miles, and warranty did not want to take care of it.

then a 02 Sunfire, the engine broke (crankshaft split in half for god sake) before 30K miles

Last american I owned was a ford focus and that car spent more time in service that any other car...

    Japansese cars:

99 Corollas, I bought it with 340K miles, and put another 70K going to school and back and never had a problem, oil change and gas is all it took...

05 Corolla bought brand new and traded in with 160K not one single problem.

Now own a 06 Altima and so far so good.

You can argue all you want but japanese are doing something right..  Toyota passed GM in sales because of quality!

I will always own a japanese car for as long as I live!
