Why do you call the restroom restroom if you don't rest inside the restroom?

Its a nice euphemism.

But actually, I've been to many restrooms which have comfortable chairs & sofas to rest on.  Usually in dept stores.  After shopping, its nice to rest ones feet & self in one of the 'restrooms.'

I wonder.  Are there any men's rooms which have chairs and sofas?

If you've been to the women's room in Nordstom's Department store you would definiely want to rest...it has couches and a seperate sitting room

it's called that because you feel "stressed/heavy" just before letting out those stuff,

when you're done, you actually feel "rested"

Just because it sounds better. When most people go to the "bathroom," they don't take a bath, either.

The term "restroom" could be partially correct, but only for women. Men's rooms don't have couches and chairs.

Washroom? That's getting a little closer, but washing is only a secondary effort after taking care of the primary business.

I guess if they called the room what it's really used for, too many people would be offended.
