  1. So that you can see the other end of the cue in the dark

  2. Its to stop the cue tip "kicking" or slipping when contact is made with the cue ball. Hopefully this will then decrease the amount of bad contacts made

  3. Chalk stops the cue from sliding on the ball, thus stopping a miscue.

  4. So you can put spin on the white ball to get position for your next shot, the chalk gives a better grip.

  5. Because you'll look professional and cool to your buddies.....it also helps slippage

  6. to stop it slipping when you hit the ball

  7. Ok, you got enough good answers.....But if you REALLY want to look cool get one of them belt chalk holders, bring your own and be the man......... They sell 'em in the pool catalogs.

  8. so you can hit the ball

  9. This is so that the cue tip has an increase in surface area which can make contact with the ball and the chalk has a similar effect to when used in weight lifting, it prevents slip movement and promotes greater control.

Chalk is helpful when trying to impart spin as it prevents the slip movement which causes miscues.

  10. To provide friction at the tip - so as to stop the cue slipping in the ball when striking.

  11. Because the pro's do!

But mainly for grip i'd guess................

  12. if you put it on your nose you would just look silly.

  13. Most cue tips are made out of leather, when leather are being hit constantly it becomes very hard and shinny. So when 2 shinny objects made contact with each there is no grip, the chalk is used to prevent it from slipping.

  14. for the sake of it.
