Why do you choose a bf or gf? Help me with my hw please?

anthropology about mate selection. Need to find out the reason why people (modern and tribal) choose a mate. Thx!! :)

Because they fear what others think of there status in life without a mate, as in many low-evolved societies.  

   All the way to even the apes of now a days.

  I think one should not worry about what others think, and forget there own ego in life.

  Just learn to be happy alone , so you can know yourself, then if such a time happens to meet someone, then be with them.

I chose a mate for the most basic human need - love and companionship. Human beings are social creatures who want to feel understood.  In a mate, we hope to find someone who understands who we really are, who will love us, and want to procreate with us - so that we can keep a bit of ourselves going.  Basically, we need to be loved.

As a tribe it may be to strenghten the community through numbers. or to strenghten intercommunity ties.

As a person it may be for

( and this goes for both modern or even pre-recorded history times)

Money/ resources/food/shelter (all can be considered the same thing)

s*x, the pleasure of which we modern humans seem to price above all else

Status/ power, i.e having a wife or husband who is rich/ powerful

Duty, i.e doing it just because you were or are expected to

Malice  to get revenge on the person you are mating with  or the person's relative, you know how that works..

For tribal, sexual selection is usually based on a couple of things. One being, is he a good hunter? is he strong? can he protect me? You need to think on the level of...can he provide me with my basic necessities? Food, shelter.

For females, it depends on what is their mark of beauty. Some tribes put rings around their neck, piercings, tattoos, etc. Another question they ask...is she worth alot? In tribal marriages, usually when the female is brought to the other village, the future husband receives a dowry which is pretty much a payment to marry the female.For example, a male in the village over marries a female, and when she is brought over for the wedding ceremony, her father will give her future husband cattle.

For modern, you need to think looks, love, money. In our society today it depends on the person. Some girls want money and looks. Some want love, its very different according to the person.

Older males want younger females to make them look good. Some males want a woman with goals they can share their life together.

Why. The first reason given by either s*x is that they want a kind, intelligent partner. The second reason varies by s*x. Men want youth and beauty ( at least trade-off levels ) and women want resources/status. There are good evolutionary reasons for this distribution; though there are exceptions and people in the tail of the distribution.
