Question:

Why do you dought the greenhouse effect?

This is something that has been on my mind for a while, and I would appreciate the so-called 'AGW Skeptics' to expand on it.

Carbon dioxide is one of various greenhouse gases. It traps some of the infared heat released from the earth's surface (often by reflection of UV light) and sends it back down to earth, warming the globe.

What is the evidence against this effect? I'm confused and interested at the same time.

Thanks.

  1. Please be serious in your question. You want science, but I have seen lists of scientists on this site who present their ideas. They are categorically shot down because they disagree with what others say. You people really don't want to hear what you say you want to hear.

  3. Many of mankind’s advancements cause earth surface to warm, destroy the ozone layer, kill off endanger species, heat cities, and in some way cause more dramatic destruction.  Blacktop and buildings (roads, roofs and parking lots-heat cities), deforestation (air pollution, soil erosion), duststorms (increase hurricanes and cyclones, cause lung diseases), fires (cause pollution, mud slides, and deforestation), refrigerants (like CFC's) and solvents (including benzene destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates) and plastics, cars, airplanes, ships and most electricity production (causes pollution including raised CO2 levels and increased lung and other diseases); these human problems we must fix to keep life on earth sustainable! Humans have destroyed half of the wetlands, cut down nearly half of the rain and other forests, and advance on the earths grasslands while advancing desertification which increases duststorms. With the peak of oil in the 1970’s, peak natural gas in the 1990’s, having mined cheep coal, the peak of ocean fishing in the 1980’s, and the peak of uranium in the 1990’s, humans must stop procrastinating and make real changes to keep earth sustainable including in the energy debate, finance and regulation. We have to come up with what will take its place and cleanup our mess. One of the big problems we have is at some time Yellowstone will blow its top again, as the magma move closer to the surface, creating a nuclear winter lasting 3 years as in 1816. After that we will not have to worry about the destruction of the ozone layer, global warming or pollution. We need renewable energy like:  Solar Concentrating Electric Power Plants, wind, wave, small hydro-electric, geothermal, and nuclear energy. We must have a pollution surcharge where we pay the real price (health effects, global warming and cleanup) for oil, natural gas, coal, cigarettes, cooling towers, cars, trains and airplanes. Raising the price of fossil fuel today gives us more time to solve these problems and helps pay for the 20 Trillion Dollars worth of renewable energy over the next 10 years. Remember knowledge is power and this information is very powerful. Humans have 50 trillion dollars worth of stuff that runs on cheep oil, natural gas, or coal. We need another cosumption tax that is progressive and do do away with most of the income tax-except as in it begining for coprorate officers, tax collectors and citizens working outside of the US. But with that we must understand we have never seen what is now happening before. CO2 has never lead to temperature change, but temperature change has led to increases in CO2. The models have to be made as we go along with current evidence! But again adding a small amount of CO2 to the atmosphere enlarges the earths sun collection causing warming; increase water in the atmosphere and it forms clouds cooling earth but sometimes causing flooding. Even natural events are warming earth and causing destruction. The sun has an increased magnetic field causing increases in earthquakes (more destruction), volcanoes (wow, great destruction), and sun spots. Lighting produces ozone near the surface (raising air pollution levels). The USA Mayor's have taken a stand and I believe are on the right track, we can have control and can have economic growth. The sun is available to produce energy, bring light to buildings and makes most of human’s fresh water. Composting is the answer to desertification. New dams are the answer to fresh water storage, energy and cooling earth by evaporation, we need many small ones all over. California needs 100 by 2012 and we are far behind.

  4. Go to this link:

    http://www.youtorrent.com/tag/?q=The+Gre...

And download the documentary called "The Great Global Warming Swindle"

Then get the propaganda follow up called PROOF THAT 'THE GREAT GLOBAL WARMING SWINDLE' WAS A SCAM.

Do some research into these topics:

    The year without a summer

    The Little Ice Age

    Global Dimming

    Super Volcanoes

When you look at the FACTS... FACTS AND ONLY FACTS... you will see that Global Warming is nothing but a cult being used to manipulate the small minded and perpetuate the adgendas of anti-advancement and anti-globalism political groups.

    Nothing more.

  5. Do you mean doubt

  6. I doubt it because the people presenting the evidence to me are not aware of the 'spellcheck' button.

  7. Everyone knows CO2 is a greenhouse gas (scientifically proven). What is in doubt is that we have contributed enough CO2 into the atmosphere as to change the natural cycles. This theory is a bunch of garbage and is not supported by scientific evidence.

In a nutshell, we contribute a minute amount of the averall greenhouse gases. In all, we contribute less than 1% of all the greenhouse gases. The reason most people think we contribute more is that AGW loonies never calculate water vapor as a greenhouse gas, even though it is the primary greenhouse gas.

Also, CO2 has a diminishing effect on weather as more is added. So for every particle added to the atmosphere, the effect will gradually approach not net warming. On page 22 of this link, there is a graph showing how little additional CO2 effects the temp. Of course, I never hear AGW crazies mention this. They make it seem that as more CO2 is added, the temp will go up and up.

In summary, there is no "doubting" the greenhouse effect. With out it, the earth would be uninhabitable as the extreme cold and heat would bake the planet. But to say our CO2 emissions will kill the world is a ludicrous statement with zero scientific backing.

  8. Why don't you know how to spell doubt.  Poor spelling casts serious doubt on your intellectual credentials for discussing a very complex question.

No one doubts the greenhouse effect, without it life as we know it would not be possible on the Earth.  What is at question is the effect of man made CO2 on this effect.  There has been no real effect demonstrated, only hypothesized.

  9. i believe global warming is true, but the reason others do not believe this is because the media sends out lies saying global warming is not true, though they have not researched or studied anything to prove this, just so they can save money and effort into saving the world from this crisis

  10. Open Burning and the transportation is the main problem.

Greenhouse effect is used to warm the Earth, the main gases are carbon dioxide (CO2). But the increasing of the Carbon dioxide resulting in Global Warming (It traps some of the infared heat released from the earth's surface (often by reflection of UV light) and sends it back down to earth, warming the globe.

    )

So, the increasing of the temperature causes the Forest burning which releases more carbon dioxide. By the way, the melting of the icebag on the Northpole and Southpole rising the sea-level, and a lot of Island would be slowly disappear from the Map... it also bring the death to us...

  11. You won't find many Europeans who doubt it.

  12. No he means drought!

    Hehe

  13. Weather is chaotic.  Ever notice you hear, "haven't had a heat wave like this in 50 years, haven't had rain like this in 35 years" blah blah, notice something there.  It has happened before.  BTW, CO2 is a life giver, the more CO2 the more life flourishes, all life on this planet is carbon based.  Temps have been much higher in the past, and we survived, the doom sayers are talking about 1 degree in a hundred years, so we are talking about 4 to 5 hundred years before any real detremental effect.  Mans contribution to the yearly CO2 production is insignificant.  The polar ice caps expand and receed all the time.  Global warming caused by humans is a fallacy.  You talk of " a few" scientists in the 70's on about the next ice age, try half the scientific community, the same ones banging on now about global warming, mostly for the lucrative grant monies out there to study climate change.  Not many scientists disagree with global warming, but many, many scientists disagree with global warming caused by humans.  In another 15 years all this scaremongering will be forgotten as temps level out, just as the ice age scarmongering was forgotten in the 80's.  Besides, "battling" climate change is a fools errand, puny humans can not stop nature, any more than we can stop a tidal wave, hurricane earthquake or volcano. If anything we should be spending on adapting to climate change, not battling it.

  14. I don't think anyone here doubts the greenhouse effect, how could they? Without it, they wouldn't be here to talk about it.

What we do doubt is the affect that CO2 has on the GHE. Any climatologist that tells you that they know exactly how CO2 affects the climate on the planet is lying. The fact is that climatologists know very little of about 80% of the climate processes on the earth. We don't even know how much influence CO2 would have on a controlled environment, let alone a system as complex as our planet. We know CO2 has some heat retention properties, but to what extent in our atmosphere? Something science is still working very hard on.

We believe that water vapor accounts for some 95% of the GHE. So can CO2, which accounts for much less than 5% of the GHE and less than 1/20 of a percent of our atmosphere, have a massive affect on the climate processes, when raised a minute amount? That is something that I, along with many many scientists and laymen, have a hard time swallowing. Especially when others call for drastic actions with terrifying consequences.

  15. I think the most understandable answer goes like this:

    1.   Glaciers are melting and the sea level is rising.

    2.   This can only happen if the Earth is warming up.

    3.   We know that the CO2 levels are rising and yes, it is a greenhouse gas.

    4.    An enormous amount is produced by naturally by volcanoes etc, but for millennia the amount produced had been equal to thae amount absorbed and stored naturally in wood, coal, chalk deposits etc.  Now we are on the scene that is altering.

    5.   Is it us or something else?  We are certainly doing our best to release it from all the ancient coal and oil deposits.

7,   Who knows but perhaps we should cut back.

    8.   Perhaps we should cut back as soon as we can.

  16. This has been the coldest winter in recorded history.  By the way doesn't vegetation grow really good in Greenhouses?

  17. No dispute from this skeptic, that's more or less how it works. But you left out a large piece of the picture.Different types of clouds, latent heat, thermal energy...etc.Then you have to realize that the globe isn't always shrouded by clouds. There is a percentile factor, been awhile since I read the article. But I'm going to guess 65% cover at a given time...seems high. I don;t know which locals though.Nor do I know the seasonal temperance of that. Nor do I know which type of clouds are induced by what at any given time. I have read about unique anomalies. Such as Dimming and polar zones, but nothing as to the things I mention,in any great detail....Yeah I'm interested also. One other thing that might make a difference,is the radiant angle of refraction...maybe more to do with seasonal allowances? From what I understand the dynamics of cloud cover is a puzzling factor from scientific observation.

Edit: I don't want to steer ya wrong, but there is speculation as whether CO2 is a driver or a consequence of GW. I was trying to avoid that. Lets just say, for argument sake it's integrated.

Any info will get a thanks.

  18. Sorry have to bring politics in to it if Global Warming is such a terrible crisis to the world why is pollution taxed and not banned
