Question:

Why do you get one point for missing in afl?

No other sport does it except irish football, where afl is similar to, or irish hurling. Is it because they feel sorry for the kicker by rewarding him with a "good try young man" so as to not hurt his feelings?

  1. You don't. You give away a free kick for missing.

If you kick a behind on the other hand, you get 1 point.

  2. You must be ignorant. If you understood the rules, the scoring area consists of a 6 point shot or a 1 point shot.

If you miss the scoring area the ball is out of bounds.

Why is it like that? Well why do they throw the ball backwards in rugby to go forwards. Why do you have two serves in tennis.

It's the rules. Get a life FFS. Duh!

  3. Are you feeling alright? What a stupid comment to make. its part of the game. you aim for the 6 point goal but if you miss then you still get 1 point.

  4. Look at it this way: it is a reward for coming close, but not necessarily a "good try young man" reward.

Compare it to American Football.  If a team gets close to the goal line but doesn't score a TD, they can kick a field goal.  It's a tangible reward for coming close to a touchdown, but not achieving one.

The same in Aussie Rules.  A behind is a tangible reward for almost scoring a goal.

BTW, there is also a similar scoring play in Canadian Football - the "single".

  5. no you don't smart ****, the behind post are part of the game, like the pts you get in yank steroid footy or union or rugby league, when you fall over a line 50 meters wide, get real idiot, any nuffy can fall over a line and score pts in those games, try catching a ball with blokes coming at you from all directions.

you like whatever sport you like and millions follow Aussie rules in  Australia. end of story.
