Why do you have to be 21 to drink alcohol?

The government said that is a responsible age and also thats when your body is done growing an it can take the alcohol. Also thats when your brain is done growing.

you can drink it anytime before 21, but law I guess says they don't want to deal with you until age 21. There's plenty of alcoholics over 21 to deal with. Also, males have things in their brains at early ages that make them do crazy things and alcohol only compounds the problem. Those crazy brain things start to fix themselves after 21. Just an opinion.

I agree with everyone else above my answer. The legal age was 18 back in the 70s. My mom said that she was allowed to drink when she turned 18 and then they changed the law so she wasn't allowed to drink till she was 21. lol...I think thats funny.

because the government think thats the healthiest age to start drinking...i think they should just change the age back to 18 bc anyone can get alcohol anyway

Because its the law. And yes it won't keep you from drinking but it will keep you from buying it.

Personally I think they need to lower the age to 19 or 20 only because at 18 we are considered adult legally but we still cannot drink for another 3 years.

I don't think it makes a lot of sense myself. I mean, at 18 we can pay taxes, vote for president, fight in the military, but not drink alcohol...?

The main reason for the legislation is that raising the legal age to 21 did reduce drunk driving deaths. However I'm not entirely sure that the net affects are positive--experience in a lot of different countries shows that young people are more likely to be responsible in their alcohol consumption if they're introduced to it at an earlier age in a family setting.
