Why do you have to charge the batteries of new things?

when you buy new things like a mobile phone or a laptop or anything else, why does it say "charge fully before use".

why do you have to charge it fully even when its already half charged?

  1. It is a safety issue about shipping batteries fully charged which can cause a fire during shipping.  They only put a small enough charge to maintain the polarity of the battery until the consumer can give it a full charge.  This charge is small enough to safely discharge the battery if a dead short was placed across the terminals, unintentionally, and not cause any damage.


  2. Why does a new born want to eat before anything else?  Same principle applies.  To have better battery life in the long run it is better to charge it fully.  Also batteries weigh more when they are fully charged...I do not know why but they do.  So companies cut shipping and their electric bill by asking you to charge the battery.
