Are there really more accidents and things? Or are there the same amount and you can just hear the sirens better from farther away?

  1. I don't find I do where I live. I tend to hear a lot more sirens in the summer months when its nice outside. But it is true, though, that sound carries more in the winter, and in rainy conditions.

Maybe there's just more petty crime where I live, and the hoods only congregate when the weather is nice. Whereas all you hear are accidents, more when the weather is bad.

  2. I know, it's raining here too, and I keep on hearing them!

  3. You may hear a lot of alarms going off from the loud thunder that will set them off. I have heard car alarms go off from a passing loud stereo. Very loud sirens may be tornado sirens being set off as well.

  4. Because people drive like even bigger idiots when there's inclement weather causing more accidents.

  5. Both.  Sound waves carry better through water so you can hear them from farther away, and the water causes more accidents.  Also, cold air is denser than hot air and will carry sound better anyway even if it is not raining.

  6. because the roads are wet and its easy to get into an accident.

  7. yes because cars get more slipper on the freeway, etc.

  8. I was going to say car accidents, but since others beat me to the punch I'll give you my other answer: lightening strikes.

  9. I'm starring this.  One of the best questions I've seen this week.  I've always just assumed that people forget how to drive in the rain and start hydroplaning into oncoming traffic.  I see no reason to think otherwise.

  10. 1 - There are more accidents.

2 - It's a bit more dangerous responding to emergencies in the rain, and a tendency to light up and use the siren more,

    3. Sound travels better in cold air.

  11. Because you have idiots that think because it's raining, they need to drive faster...Hence, the sounds of sirens and alarms...Accidents and speeding tickets....
