Why do you hear your voice different than everybody else?

I notice that when i hear myself on a recording I sound very different than how I think I sound. If that makes any sense?

  1. When you speak, the sound waves vibrate through the air and into another person ear.  However, those same sound waves vibrating through your head (and not the air) to get to your ears.  That's why it sounds different.


  2. I've always wondereed this too. I think you might sound a little different, I'm not too sure :S

  5. Yeah that's sort of a mystery,   maybe the reason for it sounding different to you is that your voice vibrates through your neck to your ears! hhhmmmmm possibility eh? Inhale some helium from a balloon and talk lol, don't hold it too long though, I did that once and woke up on the floor, I passed out from lack of oxygen....lol

  6. When you talk, bones in your head vibrate which resonates throughout and causes you to hear your voice the way you do when talking.  When you hear it played back on a tape recorder all you hear is the sound minus the resonating.
