  1. Because then i can sleep in, stay in my pajamas all day and i can finish as fast as i want or if im lazy i can be as slow as i want. Its Fun!

  2. Last year, my daughter participated in a Parents as Teachers annual review. It was a series of tests the local school and PATs provided to all kids involved in PAT for her age,3. It is designed to evaluate the kids to see if any problems are arising prior to Kindergarten. At the time they asked her questions that were "age appropriate" and did not push her at all. They only required her to say 8 letters of the alphabet, she knew all of them, could recognize them and knew the sounds they made. They asked her to start counting, they stopped her after the number 8, she told them she could do more and continued, they made her stop at 20, they actually would not let her finish and it bothered her. At the time she could count upto 40.

When they went over the results with me, and told me she counted to 8, I was concerned, knowing that she knew more than that. The teacher explained all they are are required to know is up to 4 and they make them stop after 8 so the child does not get frustrated. WHAT! The same thing happend with just about the whole test.

This year she will not be participating now that I know what it is all about. We chalk it up as a learning experience. I know our daughter will not fit into what the school expects of her so why fight it.

There are many, many other reasons why we homeschool, this is the major one that sealed the deal for us.

  3. We homeschool now because we love how it's been going. We love that our kids get academics at their level and have time to explore what they enjoy. We love that they're close friends--even though they are boy and girl and three years apart. We love that we are more important than peers/friends--kids adopt most from those they are closest to. We love that they are growing up in a healthier all-round environment compared to in schools. We love that the socializing they get isn't limited to just 20-30 kids pretty much their age--with the variety of activities going on where we live, they regularly interact with a wide range of ages and think nothing of it.

We originally chose to homeschool due to our experiences teaching--I at the elementary level, and my husband at the jr. high level. My husband still teaches jr. high. He has no desire to have our kids in school before high school--and has since been rethinking that, even. His brother is a high school teacher and we hear plenty from him.

  4. We homeschool because we want to tailor the education experience to the needs of our children.  We want to move at their pace, be it fast or slow, and teach in a manner which suits their learning style.

We also want to spend more time together to grow as a family and pass our values along.  And we want to shelter our children from negative socialization like teasing, bullying and peer pressure.  We want to give them the character and self-confidence they need to thrive in the real world.

  5. Because public schools dumb-down kids, cater to the lowest common denominator, and create a Darwinian social setting that doesn't imitate real life in the slightest.  I want my kids socialized to deal with people of all ages and backgrounds in a respectful and enriching manner.  Placing a kid in a group of 30 others of the same exact age and allowing them to interact in whatever manner comes naturally to them (bullying, domination, intimidation, fashion-obsession, etc.) is not only unlike anything they will experience the rest of their lives (in the workplace for example), it is destructive to both character development and academic achievement.

  6. 1. Proper education without favoritism or segregation.

    2. Safety issues.

    3. Teachers are unreliable.

  7. Because i can get ahead in subjects that are easy and focus on subjects that are more difficult. i rarely had "homework" (projects, but not homework). i was done with school most days by 2:00ish, and that was with sleeping in. plus, i was able to attend a local college two years early and gain college/highschool credit! aaahh, only with homeschooling.

  8. We homeschool because the public school was pushing our son through from grade to grade without him learning.

We stopped the insanity in the 8th grade and he has been homeschooled for 3 years now.   He is learning.

  9. i was bullied to death and went through very very bad emotional trama that scard my life. This is my first year and I'm doing it for seventh and eight and that will be enough time for me to build up my self estem and go back for highschool. Right now anyways it's working because I am independent. I'm ahead of my grade right now.

  10. Because you realise what a joke our school system is!  You want to spend quality time with your child (if you have the time to do so).  If, you do not have the time, ask a neighbor.  We have a group where as you can ask your neighbors to help with home-schooling, when you can not.  Connect with buckou@sbcglobal.net.

  11. Because the public schools could not educate my child and insisted she needed to be medicated, beginning with kindergarten. We fled public school for our child's health and future. We have found homeschool to be a better educational alternative all around.

  12. Because I can do a better job than the public school system. The teachers have to teach children from very behind to very much ahead all in one class. How can my daughter, who is a slow learner, get a good education this way??? She was always left behind. My son on the other hand is always ahead of the class, so how can they challenge him while trying to teach those who aren't as advanced??? The school system isn't designed to teach children of all levels. I worked in a 1st grade classroom and I was amazed at how the teachers just had to keep going even if the children didn't get what they were taught. That was when I made my decision to pull my kids. I was tired of my son's teacher telling me what a bad kid he was, when he was really just bored.

It was a challenge at first but now I love homeschooling. My kids have both since tried public school again because they thought they were missing out on something, only to realize that they wanted to come back home! :P

  13. freedom.

  14. because my son kicks butt during his kindergarten time, and he threw his luchbox full of sand to his classmate whom he taught was g*y, and he goes home late after his class, he cuts classes thats it
