Why do you increase your tip percentage when the percentage allows for inflation?

People say it costs more to live now so we should tip more.

I thought 15-20% was good! IT does cost more to live now. That's why the steak costs more and the 15-20% is more in the waitress's pocket. I've been a waitress and lived off my tips.

Why are people saying more more more?

when I was younger, the standard was 10-15%.  Now it is 15-20 with 20 really being the norm.

15 - 20 is MORE than enough?  wow, definately NOT.

20% always if the service is good, more than 20 if the service is amazing.  

5-10 if the service sucks

15-20 is more than enough..  Americans live in a giving society, we donate more to charity than any other country, yet we all live in debt..  the price of the steak went up, therefore the tip went up..  you are correct..
