  1. I think we lie because its natural and initially we think we are protecting ourselves or we think it make us look better.

Some people lie just to be lying. I can't explain that. And even worst, some people believe their own lies, knowing that what they are saying is not true. My question would be why do people who tell lies get mad at people when they don't believe them, especially when you catch them in the lie.

  2. It's a basic habit of humans to  make them seem "better" than they really are.

  3. To make some one fell better apart from his or her trouble.

  4. They're never major lies, but it's either to avoid hurting someone or for an easy life. Eg : How are you? me: I'm fine...avoids a lengthy discussion and noone often really asks you how you are to find out the truth anyway. Try telling someone the truth and watch their bored reaction ;-)

  5. Lying can make things easier, but only if you keep the lies little.

  6. i only lie in little bits...and usually it's just lying by ommision, because i don't want the hassle of having to explain whatever it is i'm ommitting.

  7. To avoid hurting others, even though it doesn't always work out that way.

  8. Low self esteem and to look good.

  9. I'm not lying, it's the BIGGEST I've EVER seen, honest.

    Peace.

  10. people lie because they don't want to be blamed...

some people lie unintentionally, for some reasons.

if you lie for  a good reason, it is called a "white lie",

there are often clues you can see in behavior that should make you suspicious:Avoidance of eye contact: Usually someone makes eye contact at least half the time they are talking to you.  If you notice them avoiding eye contact or looking down during a specific part of a conversation, they may well be lying.Change of voice: A variation in pitch of voice or rate of speech can be a sign of lying.  So can lots of umms and ahhs.Body language. Turning your body away, covering your face or mouth, a lot of fidgeting of hands or legs can indicate deception.Contradicting yourself:. Making statements that just don’t hold together should make you suspicious. If you lie all the time, even about unimportant things, you are likely to have a problem that will eventually -- if it hasn’t already -- cause you real relationship, financial or legal troubles. Figuring out what is driving you to lie in the first place will help heal this self-destructive behavior. This may mean going into treatment with a therapist to discover why you feel the need to deceive.Dr. Gail Saltz is a psychiatrist with New York Presbyterian Hospital and a regular contributor to “Today.” For more information, you can visit her Web site, www.drgailsaltz.com.
